Prison Guards locked out by Management as Investigation Begins. (UPDATED)

POINTE BLANCHE: A number of prisons guards were hit by a surprise on Wednesday morning when they reported to work and found that they were locked out by management. SMN News learned that there is an ongoing investigation taking place at the Pointe Blanche house of detention regarding prison guards who are suspected of taking illicit drugs into the house of detention. SMN News understands that an investigation was conducted and it determined that five prison guards were involved in taking illicit drugs inside the house of detention and selling it to inmates. The source said that when the prison management got that information they immediately suspended the five prison guards. However, their union representatives sent them back to work on Wednesday morning citing that proper procedures were not followed by the prison management namely the director of the prison Edward Rohan. SMN News further learnt that the Voorgangs committee is busy investigating the management of the prison and will be writing a report on their findings.

Minister of Justice Edison Kirindongo in an invited comment said that five prison guards are under investigation.  Minister Kirindongo said the investigation is conducted by the Landsrecherche. He said at this point in time he cannot divulge much information into the ongoing investigation, but hopes that he will be able to do so in the very near future.
