Speeding Driver Arrested.
PHILIPSBURG: --- Relatives of a 46 year old national of Dominica are now mourning his sudden death. The victim was killed around 6am on Saturday morning. Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson said police was called to the scene of the accident at Bishop Hill just after 6am where they found the lifeless body of the victim lying under an (excavator) backhoe with serious head and body injuries. Nearby residents identified victim as David Charles.
The police spokesman said that the victim had a habit of getting up early in the morning to dispose of his garbage in the garbage bins not far away from his home. Henson said the man was walking back to his house when a speeding X-Trail jeep bearing the number plate P 5324 hit a Hyundai Elantra that was parked on the side of the road. Henson said the accident occurred on the curb on Bishop Hill, the victim he said was on his way home when he was struck.
The victim who was not far away from the parked car was struck very hard by the car, due to the heavy impact the victim body went airborne and ended up under an excavator (backhoe) that was parked in the yard of a nearby property that has some apartment buildings. Henson said police arrested the driver of the jeep who hails from Suriname. He said police cannot say if the driver of the jeep fell asleep while driving or if he lost control of the vehicle since he was driving at very high speed. He said the traffic department is busy conducting the investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident that claimed the life of the 46 year old man.
