Minimum wage indexed as of January 2015.

corneliusdeweever23102014GREAT BAY:--- Minister of Public Health Social Development & Labor, Cornelius De Weever is proud to announce that the minimum wage will be indexed from Naf 8,56 per hour to Naf 8,75 per hour as of January 1, 2015. "I am extremely happy to have the minimum wage indexed," said Minister De Weever. For the third consecutive year Minister de Weever has indexed the minimum wage in order for workers to keep up with the rising cost of living. The legal basis for the Minister of Public Health Social Development & Labor to index the minimum wage can be found in article 13, paragraph 1 of the National Ordinance Minimum Wages.

"I am willing to index the minimum wage as long as the economic situation allows it," said Minister De Weever. Consultation was held with the Social Economic Council whom advised in December 2012 that with the envision of the Minister of Public Health Social Development & Labor along with the minimum hourly wage policy in principle it has been agreed to index the minimum wage annually. In addition, the Bureau of Statistics specified that the price indices for household consumption shows that the figure for the month of the preceding year changed, thus a new minimum hourly wage. It is important to note that all employers should take note of the indexation and have it properly adjusted on the payslips of their employees. The minimum wage is just a baseline and should not be used for every worker.
