electoralcouncillogo01062014PHILIPSBURG:--- The Electoral Council is pleased to announce that all candidates who contested the recently held Parliamentary elections, submitted their registers of donations to the Electoral Council. At the end of the deadline, last Monday, 87 of the 90 candidates had submitted their registers of donations, one of which was not fully in accordance with the provisions of the National Ordinance Registration and Finances of Political Parties. These were received a few days later in the correct format.
After receipt of all registration of donation, the Electoral Council immediately embarked on the process of reviewing the registries, while giving special attention to those of the parliamentarians elect in view of the fact that they will be sworn in on Friday, October 10, 2014. A preliminary review of the registers of donations of the parliamentarians elect indicates, that thus far the majority has complied with the relevant ordinance; a few cases will require a more in-depth review.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Electoral Council invited the parliamentarians elect to appear before the Electoral Council at the office on Backstreet to sign a declaration as stipulated in article 53 of the National Ordinance Registration and Finances of Political Parties. This declaration states that the parliamentarian elect is cognizant of the provisions laid down in the National Ordinance Registration and Finances of Political Parties and that the parliamentarian elect has not acted in contravention of said provisions during the election campaign for the Parliamentary elections that were held on August 29th, 2014.
Prior to the parliamentary discussions regarding the credentials of the parliamentarians elect, the signed declarations were delivered to the President of Parliament of Sint Maarten

At a later date and within one month after their appointment, the Electoral Council will invite the appointed Ministers to the new Council of Ministers to sign a similar declaration as is stipulated in article 53 of the National Ordinance Registration and Finances of Political Parties.
