TelEm Group experiencing problems with voice and data circuits.

POND ISLAND:--- TelEm Group this morning reported an interruption in its voice and data service that is affecting several major companies, including RBC Bank, Scotia Bank, Blue Mall and the Airport facilities at PJIAE.

Technical staff and engineers of TelEm Group are presently working along with a vendor in Texas USA, to properly identify the problem and restore connections as soon as possible.

At approximately 1:00 pm today TelEm Group Management assured all companies presently without service that restoration of voice and data services has top priority with the company at this time.

As of this time, equipment vendors have established that the problem with the connections lie with corrupted software that operates the voice and data transmission equipment.

Chief Technical Officer (CTO) Mr. Eldert Louisa said due to the complicated process of restoring the software restoration of service is taking longer than expected.

He said when the main issues began to develop shortly before 7:00 pm Wednesday evening, the problem was confined to only a few customers, however by Thursday morning, company technicians and the USA vendor had reported a more extensive failure of the software and its operation of the voice and data circuits.

"This failure is affecting international calls, financial transactions at the ATMs of the banks listed above as well as credit card verification for the same banks and businesses whose circuits are affected.

"Fortunately, the equipment outage has not resulted in a total transmission failure because the majority of customers have remained connected since the problem was reported," added Mr. Louisa.

TelEm Group customers who are experiencing problems with their voice and data links are advised to call 611 to report any outage. Meantime management of TelEm Group is appealing for patience while all efforts are made to reconnect customers without delay.

Management has also apologized to customers for any inconvenience caused by the interruption in international voice and data service.
