SMMC Specialist plans to Quit by May 2013 --- Radiologist Terminated After One Week at SMMC.

smmc23082012Philipsburg:--- Dr. Theo Jollis has informed the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) and the Inspectorate of Health that he will be leaving SMMC as early as May 2013. SMN News learnt that Jollis is tired of the unprofessional way the current Managing Director of the SMMC, Dr. George Scot is managing the hospital and he has requested on numerous occasions that the St. Maarten Medical Center find him a permanent assistant. It should be noted that Dr. Theo Jollis is the only internal specialist at SMMC and he is also the one heading the dialysis center at SMMC. Dr. Jollis has been working at the SMMC since 1981. SMN News also learnt that several other doctors have threatened to leave the SMMC because of the deplorable state of the medical institution.

According to well placed sources, the Medical Director of SMMC has not yet responded to Dr. Jollis' letter which he delivered to the institution last week.

SMN News further learnt that the Inspectorate of Health is currently conducting an investigation to determine why the replacement radiologist at the institution left after working at SMMC for one week. SMN News was reliably informed that the in-house radiologist is currently on sick leave and a replacement was brought in and he was allegedly fired after one week of service by the Managing Director of SMMC, Dr. George Scot. Sources at the SMMC say that SMMC has already submitted a request at the Department of Health to obtain a permission from country St. Maarten to bring in another temporary radiologist.

    How long will this be allowed to continue. I believe in dealing with the issues in a professional way but this is simply going too far now.

    Do we have to wait until a prominent person in society succumb due to the ongoing issues before drastic measures are taken. It is more than clear that there are sufficient reasons to fire this Dr. Scott immediately. All doctors are leaving or being fired. Dr. Scott is clearly taking revenge and Govt. is now to be held directly responsible for any negative consequences due to his actions.

    They are playing with the lives of the people of this Island and that is totally unacceptable. Will we just sit by to wait and see who will be the next victim of Dr. Scott and Govt.???

    Dr. Jolles is the last of all the specialists who have left over the past few years and NOTHING is being done about their warnings.

    What is really going on here???

    For a small hospital like SMMC, the problems that occur are of biblical proportions. Action is needed immediately to safeguard access to proper health care for the people of Sint Maarten.

    Most of the time it is needed to sit down, reason and evaluate.

    Sometimes you just need to take action. Get rid of the director and the entire board.

    Eight years ago SMMC had some of the best doctors, they are virtually all gone. This is due to disbutes with Dr. Scot, so who is the problem at the SMMC? His naval string or something maybe buried there?

    Let's hope we will get a better specialist who cherish peoples life over 60 years. Dr. Jolles is NOT one of the best specialist. He treats the elders as if they don't worth living. Like he once said after 60 years you can dead. Does he give live to choose at what age we can dead? There's lot of cases he messed up and speaks to patients as if he don't care. Only God can save the patients when they go to SMMC. On another not what the heck they have man and woman sharing the same ward at the SMMC. This is as crazy as hell. Don't the patients have a say in this. Can you imagine this? It's a mess. I for sure would not tolerate this has a patient. Don't the patient have a say? They just push you anywhere like animals or you don't have a choice so you have to take it or leave it. It's just disgusting. Instead of wasteing money and talking about a tunnel what we don't need focus on Health Care. No,

    How can they focus on Health care when they won't get a big cut out of that. The big shots can catch a flight and go to the U.S. for medical care. Only we the small man will suffer. Guys put your hope and trust in God alone NOT man.

    It is often said that a country gets the government it deserves. In so-called democracies, this statement is repeated even more often, citing how people get to go to polls and choose their political leaders in a free and fair setting. Same can be said of St. Maarten, where we prefer incompetent individuals in public office. These individuals contribute to incompetence in government. This in turn has its effects on incompetent practices in society, such as those seen in public health. Maybe we should, as a nation, be less impressed with ministers leading zumba cla**es and handing out pencil cases to kids.

    I want to know what secret Dr Scot is holding. He was involved in a fight with a female civil servant when he worked at Vineyard building after he had kicked the woman. Instead of firing him they moved him to SMMC. The man has absolutely no respect for anyone. They are going to wait until the name of SMMC is so smeared that the ships won't even send patients there for a paper cut. 'The ship is more than the crew'. This means that SMMC is more than Scott'. Give him the BOOT before it is too late.

    if we cant fix this hospital, it is time to give out a license to another one so that there is competition. when there is competition, service always improves. where is that medical tourism hospital project gone? can the medical university help us and send some consultants to check out why we have ing so many problems?

    i work with his sister in the past so i know what a mess the hospital is in right know i can see the apple dont fall far from the tree its a shame that there will be no more great doctors and specialist in st.maarten hospital what the dutch side coming too

    I don't know how dr SCOTT is working....Because on tuesday he went on the flight to Holland..He and his wife and daughter......I hope it's not on my tax money he buy the ticket...........
