OPEN REQUEST TO ISLAND-COUNCIL LADY SARAH WESCOTT-WILLIAMS.

E-mail Print PDF
Take your concern about rights of indigenous St. Martiners to the Island-council.
Dear Council lady, Mrs. Sarah WESCOT-WILLIAMS,
With great interest, the people of this island took notice of statements of concerns recently made by you about issues which are still 'outstanding' in the draft constitution for 'country' St. Maarten.
One such concern you expressed (See the Daily Herald of Wednesday, February 17, 2010) was the 'safeguarding of the rights of the indigenous St. Maarteners (locals)
As we have stated in a number of releases related to these statements, not only do we agree with you, but support you in making sure that the rights of the indigenous St. Martin people are protected in order to guard them against marginalization.
Although there are those who are of the opinion, that you made these remarks because you are now in the opposition, true or not, we nevertheless appreciate you for expressing that concern which those who were in opposition never did as at that time as well.
In addition, what is more important to us than such back- and-forth 'blame-game', is the fact that this statements made by you are recorded and consequently and have taken on a 'life of its own'.
Even far more that that, your statements about the rights of the indigenous St. Martin people have 'touched off' a level of hope and expectation among the St. Martin people, which will not be put to rest until you actually prove that you meant what is recorded as your concern.
We therefore make use of this opportunity to urgently request of you as leader of the DP-party to call for an official meeting of the Island-council to debate this, the single-most important issue for the St. Martin people, that of their very SURVIVAL as a people in their own land, now heralded to be Country St.Maarten.
Thus far, this concept is only St. Maarten in name, but not for 'real', since its constitution does not even care to recognize the native-indigenous St. Martin peole, let alone cares to PROTECT them !
If this is not treason or betrayal, then what is ?
It should not be under-estimated that not having the existence, the rights and privileges of the natives of this island properly formulated in the island's first constitution, will not only hang as a eternal 'curse' over those who betrayed our heritage, but sooner or later they all will be brought before the people's tribunal.
Meanwhile, every member in the Island-council will be held accountable for remaining silent on this matter of life and death for the people of this island.
Also, even if the Dutch Government would support any new constitutional change that does not care to acknowledge, respect the existence and the rights of the people this island, certainly we as a grass root people's movement will never accept such document of betrayal and will do whatever it takes to protect our rights as indigenous people.
Looking forward to your expedient response,

With respect,

Copies to all relevant Authorities within the Dutch Kingdom, Caricom, the UN etc. etc.

Leopold JAMES
President SNBF/Association L'Esprit de Concordia and
native-indigenous St. martiner with pride and without apologies.

Leopold James are you serious? The politician "Sarah Wescott Williams" or people tricker is what best describes her, was birthed by Claude Wathey the man who is single handedly responsible for giving away the most lucrative domain lands to a few investors who have now enriched themselves by selling luxury villas and condominiums. And at the same time have turned the indigenous people of SXM into slave wage earners, tenants and criminals. You see when you give the people no choice to enjoy the economic bloom, they find creative ways of getting a piece of the pie. SXM belongs to Indians, Chinese, Arabs, Europeans and North Americans. Not forgetting the Guyanese. Sarah has promoted and allowed the people of SXM to become beggars, while ex patriots have ensured the quality of life they enjoy and land is beyond our reach. It amazes me how Sarah a civil servant is a multi millionaire today while promising the people of SXM to safeguard their future. Her grand children attend private schools while she messed up the education system. Leopold I don't know what your motives are but for an educated man you make me wonder when you make Sarah out to be a noble person when she should be tried in the Hague and incarcerated for bad representation and personal enrichment.

Dear Loyalty,

Thanks for your comment, which I really appreciate and understand.
However, in my defense, you should realize that I am president of a non-partisan (non-political, non-prejudicial gra*s root St. Martin movement.
Our main objectives are to protect the native-indigenous St. Martiners, their heritage and their rights to be first in their land.
In addition we aim to promote the ultimate unification of both sides of the island into one sovereign country with very strong ties to France, the Netherlands, the region and further.
As such, we recommend or criticize ANY politicians or ANY political party NOT based on who they are, but based on their positions/actions/remarks or statements relative to the objectives just mentioned.
Therefore, regardless of the whatever motive for Sarah to call to have the rights of indigenous St. Martiners taken up in the constitution, which is something we also clamored for, how can we NOT commend her at least on this public statement ?
In addition, even if she did that for 'political' reasons and because she now is in opposition, I can not recall those who have almost 'forever' been in opposition, ever mention the word, St. Martiners, let alone NATIVE St. Martiners, even let more alone, even suggested that the rights of indigenous St. Martiners should be anchored in the new 'constitution'.
In other words, even though I have so many friends and families in ALL political parties, including the NA, I am very wary of the 'Jim Jones'- effect, whereby people BLINDLY follow everything their leader tells them.
That goes for EVERY politician.
this has always been our stance, which we certainly intend to maintain, in order to take this island and its people beyond constant political bickering, while outsiders are making use of that to replace us.
If Sarah's statement to have the rights of indigenous St. Martiners taken up in the constitution, is just meant as a 'joke', believe, I would not like to 'wear her shoes'.
Hoping to have genuinely responded to you.
With respect,

Leopold.

Dear 'loyalty',

Thanks for your comment.
I will try to be short and to the point here.
Certainly, I appreciate you considering me to be an educated man.
Now about my motives, which you ask about.
First of all, they are NOT political for sure.
In addition, I am absolutely NO loyalist to ANY political party.
More than that, I am no, nor will I ever be any 'blind' follower of any 'cult' a la 'Jim Jones'.
Such is totally out of any question.
That means, that I, Leopold JAMES reserve the rights at all times to think for myself and express myself the way I believe I should and not be mind-controlled, ni by 'Sarah', ni by 'William', ni by 'Gracita' not by any living man or woman.
Next, dear 'loyalty', you claim that I made out Sarah to be a 'noble' person.
Honestly, that is real news to me and so, I look forward you publishing such any quote from me anytime you manage to secure such.
What I certainly did without any apologies or approval, was to publicly, commend Sarah for at least doing what NO other 'noble' politicians has ever done before as far as I can recall.
That was that Sarah PUBLICLY expressed the need to have the rights of indigenous SXM'ers protected in the CONSTITUTION.
If that is so wrong, please save me being your kind of 'right'.
That Sarah might be playing 'politics' by only now expressing such, has not escaped my attention as well.
But, no need now to 'go there', while our people are being marginalized, even with the NA now in power.
'Trust me'.
If Sarah does not mean what she said and is not willing to push it further via the Island council, for sure, she will have to deal with the aftermath.

Thanks and have a wonderful day.

Leopold JAMES
