Leonald Conner School Wins Public Education Interscholastic Sports Day; Minister of Sports Jacobs Opened the Event.

sjacobsatinterscholasticsportsday19062012GREAT BAY (DCOMM):--- Minister of Sports Hon. Silveria Jacobs last Friday officially opened the 2012 Public Education Interscholastic Cycle 2 Sports Day held at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex.

After tabulating the results of the Cycle 1 and 2 Interscholastic Sports Day, the Leonald Conner School was determined to be the overall winner of the Interscholastic Sports Day 2011-2012.

The organizers - Public Education Physical Education Instructors - annually bring the top student athletes of Cycle 1 and Cycle 2 of all Public Schools together to compete against each other for a much coveted trophy and title. The 2010-2011 winners were Marie Genevieve de Weever Primary School.

The opening ceremony included a march around the track by the student athletes of the Oranje School Primary School, Leonald Conner, Ruby Labega, Charles Leopold Bell, M. Genevieve de Weever and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Schools.

The march was led by Minister of Education Hon. Silveria Jacobs and Head of Division Public Education Services Glenderlin Davis-Holiday. The procession was accompanied by drummers of the Oranje School.

After the invocation and singing of the St. Maarten Song, Minister Jacobs addressed the organizers, students and staff of the various schools.

"I wish you all much success as you represent your schools, but I implore you to display TRUE SPORTSMANSHIP by WINNING WITH PRIDE AND LOSING WITH DIGNITY! At the end of the competition there can only be one school declared as the winner, however as representatives of your various schools, you are all winners! Take pride in doing the best you can and never give up. May the best school win!," the Minister told the young athletes at the opening last Friday.

The Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports wishes to congratulate all organizers and participants of the annual event for a successful sports day, and pledges to upgrade and improve all sport facilities in order for the country's children to be able to train and compete year round in proper facilities.
