Minister Jacobs attends musical showcase by students.

sjacobsattendsmusicalshowcase03062012Philipsburg (DCOMM):--- On Thursday, May 31, Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports, Silveria Jacobs attended the Musical Showcase, organized by the music teachers, Rosemary Marsham-Hodge, Bobby Vlaun and Marva Richardson. The event took place at the Philipsburg Community and Cultural Center.

Ten cycle 2 students from each of the following schools: Oranje, M. Genevieve de Weever and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were chosen to form the United Choir and Ensemble which were the featured acts.

The United Choir under the directorship of Rosemary Marsham-Hodge sang an array of medleys highlighting their melodious voices and culminating in the jazz number "Jitterbug."

Bobby Vlaun's Music Ensemble of recorder players featured solos and marvelously timed Caribbean classics.

There were several guest acts from the other public schools such as dancers, soloists, drummers and "Lil Paben" who did a dramatic dance a la Paben.

Marva Richardson led the guest choirs from Ruby Labega and Charles L. Bell School.

Another top notch and well receive group was one comprised of 5 drummers.

Three One-hour sessions were held to accommodate the schools to be able to enjoy the showcase.

Head of Director PES Mrs. G. Davis thanked the teachers for their collaborative efforts in decorating the Cultural Center.

Minister Jacobs was in awe of the professional presentations of the students taking part in the Musical Showcase and pledged to work hard to be able to have more students' talents explored and developed in schools and to showcase their talent in the community.
