PHILIPSBURG:--- The Kingdom Chair on Democratic Representation, in collaboration with the University of St. Martin (USM), will host a public lecture titled “How Does the Netherlands View the Kingdom? The results of the Dutch elections and an opinion survey among European Dutch citizens.” The lecture will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 7:00 PM in Lecture Hall 202 at USM. Admission is free, and the presentation will be in English.
The lecture will be delivered by Professor Wouter Veenendaal, Special Professor of Kingdom Relations and Associate Professor of Comparative Political Science at Leiden University. Professor Veenendaal’s research focuses on political dynamics in small (island) states and on governance and democracy within the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
In his presentation, Professor Veenendaal will discuss the outcomes of the Dutch elections of October 29 and their potential consequences for relations within the Kingdom. He will also share findings from a recent opinion survey among European Dutch citizens, providing insight into how public attitudes in the Netherlands might shape future cooperation with the Caribbean countries.
This event aims to encourage informed dialogue on the state of democracy, representation, and mutual understanding within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
