Sint Maarten Lions Club announces winners of the 2022 Multiple District 60 Peace Poster Contest.

lionsposter02012023 PHILIPSBURG:--- The Lions International Peace Poster Contest is one of several Lions Clubs International Youth Programs that provide a one-of-a-kind and enriching educational experience for youth while also contributing to further developing their artistic skills, self-expression, and personal growth. Each year, young people from various countries participate in the Contest, which offers them the chance to share their ideas for peace and motivate people throughout the world via their artistic expression.

The Sint Maarten Lions Club invited various schools and after-school Programs on the Dutch side of the island to enroll in this year’s Peace Poster Contest with the Theme “Leading with Compassion.”

In his opening remarks at the recent Prize Distribution Ceremony held at the Lions Den in Sucker Garden, the President of the Sint Maarten Lions Club, Lion John Schaminee thanked “all participants present for their hard work and dedication to their craft”.

This year’s winners are: 2nd runner up, Christina Xie (Seventh Day Adventist School), 1st runner up, Kirina Brown (The Charlotte Brookson Academy), and 1st prize winner Li Yuan Wu (St. Joseph School).

All participants of the Peace Poster Contest received an Arteza acrylic pen set, 12 colors dual tips along with a pencil case and notebook. The 2nd runner-up prize winner received an Art set acrylic, 24 colors with a pencil case and notebook. The 1st runner-up prize winner received an Arteza art acrylic painter, 35 colors with a pencil case and note book, while the 1st prize winner was awarded an Arteza acrylic paint marker set, 60 color painting markers with a canvas bag.

After winning locally, Miss Wu’s artwork was submitted to the Lions Sub District 60B Peace Poster Contest Committee where it won first place. It was then reviewed by a panel of judges along with the artwork of the winning entry of Sub District 60A for selection for the Multiple District 60 grand prize winner.

Lion Claudio A. Buncamper PMJF, Council Chairperson of Multiple District 60 who attended the Prize Distribution Ceremony, congratulated the participants on behalf of all the Lions and Leo’s Clubs in the MD60 Caribbean Region and thanked them “for sharing their vision of a peaceable future through this unique art form.” He announced that Miss Wu’s winning artwork will be submitted to Lions Clubs International to determine the overall winner among all the submissions on an international level.

The Sint Maarten Lions Club would like to again thank all the students who participated in the 2022 Peace Poster Contest, the parents for their support, the art teachers who mentored these amazing students, and the schools that provided guidance to these young students.
