PHILIPSBURG:--- As part of the club’s, “Reach 1 Feed 1” initiative, the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset distributed over 130 hot meals to citizens on October 28. Reach 1 Feed 1 (R1F1), is a program created by the club to provide assistance to families faced with various challenges. The program will be carried out every October as part of Rotary International’s theme, “Economic and Community Development.”
Members of the club delivered hot meals and cold beverages to citizens in the Dutch Quarter, Pond Island, Cay Hill, St. James and Agreement districts. Present to assist in the distribution of meals in the St. James and Agreement districts were Andy “Dutty Sham” Polynice-Flanders of Association Swalitainment. “Through the R1F1, the club is able to have dialogue between people, communities, and nations in ways that people would not ordinarily have experienced before. These dialogues are key contributing factors in addressing the struggles our fellow citizens are faced with, strengthening communities and nation-building,” the club stated.
The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset would like to thank its partners; Pineapple Pete, Diana Gumbs, Quality Food, Les Delices Creoles, Fleming’s Café, Cake House and members of the club for preparing the meals. Special recognition is extended to Mr. Jerry Flanders of A & J Destination Management Company for providing transportation to the club members in order to carry out this initiative. The club encourages the community at large to do their part in assisting where possible, which in turn will improve the island’s economy and community.
