PHILIPSBURG:--- On Saturday July 25th, several board and team members of the Soualiga Soccer Associaton (SSA), hosted a soccer clinic during this years Summer Fit Camp, organized by the Collective Prevention Services (CPS - Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour). This was the second year the camp was hosted as well as the second time SSA joined in on the fun. The goal and purpose of this camp is to promote healthy eating habits and physical activity within a controlled environment. A total of 25 children between the ages of 9 to 12 years (or cycle 2 students) learned different ways to be physically active, eat healthy portion controlled meals and snacks, build self-esteem and confidence. They also learned the importance of healthy snacking, limiting sugary foods and beverages and the importance of drinking water rather than of juice.
The ladies of the Soualiga Soccer Association dedicated some of their time to inspire the children by teaching them a few basic soccer moves and playing a few small matches with them and some of their camp leaders. The kids as well as the SSA ladies enjoyed this wonderful initiative. The Board of the Soualiga Soccer Association would like to congratulate CPS on hosting such a successful camp. Ever since its inception in April 2013, Soualiga's main goal has been to encourage girls and women to participate in the sport of soccer, thereby living a healthy and active lifestyle, as well as contributing to the community when and wherever they can and has therefore dedicated themselves to helping out initiatives such as the Summer Fit Camp.
