According to information reaching SMN News, two masked men armed with a gun entered the establishment and demanded gold. The two employees inside the store decided to cooperate with the gunmen and told them to take whatever they wanted. The bandits then rushed to one of the showcases that had lots of gold chains. The bandits opened the showcase and removed the chains before escaping.

  • the day after....
    avatar

The day after well dressed men and women pretending to represent the rest of us walked the same street on their way to a lunch (for invited guests only), armed gunmen walk the same streets, commit crime and get away. Now, what's wrong with this picture? Or is it just me?

I think that the crime is all time high in sxm, people are affraid to live and do business on the island, goverment must take neccesary steps asap

Sxm police shall b more active, there should be a proper arrangement of police, otherwise eventually it is going to give a very bad impression to our island.

It is because the law lets these crooks out of jail with no time spent. If they caught, the Dutch legal system just slaps them on the wrist!! Criminals in SXM do no time anymore because the jails are full and lousy laws. Send these crooks to Texas where they will do REAL time and maybe get crispy fried instead of the plush life they live for a short time in island jails!!

Duncan, we need a chain gang on SXM. Give them hard labor, that will discourage them from further stealing. Or on the 2nd offence, cut one hand off. Do it again, you lose your other hand too.

3.30 in the afternoon. High Day. The thieves are getting braver and braver. All it would take is for some one to blow them up you will see how soon they will back off. They are getting away with it. This is scary, people are now afraid to walk around and shop. If something drastic does not happen, we can forget tourism. Please politicians, Focus on this and stop the bickering. Do the jobs you were elected/selected to do.

Nothing is going to be done. The politicians and police just care for their pension and fat salary.

The beautiful SXM is no longer there!

The "REAL" SXM'ers are no longer there!

The friendly old timers are no longer there!

    Sad

@ open eyes, you all begging for the makamba's to come here to run our justuce sytem, but don't you realise because of them that is why out justice sytem is like this. I know that we used to have the criminals outside cleaning the streets, but since the came in with this human rights thing this is what mess up our system.
    1. we used to cut their hair when reach prison, we can do that anymore.
    2. The used to get lashes, we can't do that anymore
so if you think the justice system bad here, check out holland, thank God we gone country because we would have to empliment alot more rules and regulations that holland have. So if you want it get worse let them come and you will see.
Humanrights have our system mess up and thatis the problem. They say that the prisoners has rights.I think after you commit a crime all your rights is taken away. The beaches need cleaning up with all that seaweed. put them to clean up, but the system don't allow us to do that.In holland the jail more luxurous than ours here.
    Becareful what you ask for.

The day before, it was the rich walking to lunch, and the next day, the funeral, so is this what we are to expect everytime, something is going on.

So if you have a family member dead, and everybody going funeral, do you have to put a security at each house,
maybe the funeral homes, can offer this service included in the package, as the thieves are following everything.

It is so sad what has happened, and is happening, on our once beautiful island.

WRONG, has become the norm of life, everybody do WRONG
and then it is covered, so how,do we want the thieves not to be thiefing.

Mr Duncan, needs to give an order, that anybody you catch
beat them to death, since he don't want to give you a gun.

Something has to be done, it is ridiculous.

These beach bars, are harbouring all kinds of scum, that roam
the place at night. They don't respect the law.
It is said you can't have loud music after 10. When you send
the police, the boss gives them a drink, and they turn it down
until the car is out of sight, and back up it goes, I was at one
    and I saw this.
Everybody has a price tag, everybody making deals,
this island is lost, and yes, send back the marechaussee
to help, and change them every 6 months like the french side do.

SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE, AS KILLING WILL GET WORST, AND IT WILL BE PEOPLE PROTECTING THE LITTLE
THEY HAVE, AS THEY CAN'T AFFORD SECEURITY GUARDS, LIKE OUR POLITICIANS.

we cant blame the dutch system any more,we can now present legislation for harsher punishment not only for crimes against tourist as duncan wants to do but for crime in general,

two ships in town and these fellas run into a place and hold it up??? it does not make sense to spend millions to promote sxm and then this happens on front street middle of the day

instead of parading in ur nice hats and expensive suits like a bunch of idiots, try and take control of this place thats what u are being payed to do

Kaliya will be kaliya, and thiefs. They love robbing and having drugs. Most of the time politicians and police are together with them.

    @ open eyes

The Dutch laws are the present laws on SXM. The judges, prosecutors, most of the lawyers are all makambas. No difference will be made. The people need to administer justice themselves. Remember this, it's not what you do it is how it is done. The mob does not go to the courts, they do not pray and wiat for their god either. They do what they consider resonable and just. You have Justice, just-us, and just-me. Choooooose.

    avatar

    @ wowie

its not the law keeping them out jail... its the fact that sint maarten dont want to spend one dime on prisoners. you have to build a prison to hold prisoners and that had to be done years and years and years back.

if no extra prison is built, and the minister dont want to let go of the prisoners who did almost all of their time already (open the back door), the prosecutor has no other choice than to close the front door.... so they can be prosecuted and sentenced, but the sentence will never be executed.

sint maarten government rufused to see the bigger picture for decades. this is the tragic result.

  • Wow
    avatar

Wow, unbelievable. This is becoming the norm on the Island. Sxm Government better take care of this problem because pretty soon tourist will stop coming and then what? :o

  • Why
    avatar

Mr Duncan seems to be a bold to the point person,
why is he not yet updating the BOX as a prison for juveniles.

I never thought what people said would and could make a difference to him.

Now the police are upset and tired of picking up the same people.

It is as if they met an old friend when they pick up a thief
    ...............you again?

The people of this island is really hurting, as we have become prisoners in our homes.
