The church shouldn't complain about vulgarity. If you're a Christian BE a Christian don't look at what others are doing. Christians need to stop using the Bible to judge others and start using it to guide their lives...

If sitting in church on Sunday make one a Cristian, then sitting in a garage makes one a car.

Why is an MP invole with this as oppose to someone from the tourist/culture office. Shouldn't romain be working on laws for the betterment of the ppl of this country? Or what he claim he was gonna do. Work for the small man?

This is getting out of hand. The council of churches no longer have purpose in St. Maarten. Shame that this is what they now stoop to. The have been silent and have watch their congregation suffer and said and did nothing. Now Tempo get money and all is well. what a shame. As is tempo will have added value to religion and faith. As for Romain the boy is just lost. The churches supporting tempo because they know what vulgarities they too have going on amongst themselves. They should be shame.

"Upliftment of the community" ......by taking NAF. 720.000,00 from our poor government to organize a party for an overseas entertainment company!!!!

Romain; go make legislation for the Island for the damn NAF 18.000,00 p/m you are making. Your not Bliss, Tantra, Soggy dollar bar!! Leave the organization of parties to others!!

And don't abuse religion for this. Even if you get The pope to do the opening, we will still see you all as a bunch of bandits. We're not stupid!

  • Check this out!

These so-call churches are johnny come latelies who are springing up all over to steal poor peoples money. Ask e few of their disgruntled members behind close doors and will find out what is truly going on. (Nothing against foreigners) But take a peek in the churches on the corners and see who is in there and doing what? It has become a cover. If you are looking for a wife/husband just attend one of those safe soul churches and wallah ;-) The catholic, anglican, and methodist members only baptist their children and then go to the other churches looking for a husband or wife. ;-)

what is it that we are so up set about? is it that we disapprove of the Government spending $400,000. to promote St. Maarten through Tempo.

Are we saying that The Churches should not accept to conduct the morning combine service?

Is the Church making a financial gain from any of this promotion?

Will the Government please give us a break down as to how the $400,000. will be spent, and how will St. Maarten benefit?

If the Church condemns the vulgarity which is at times shown on Tempo would we sing the praises of the Church or would we still condemn the Church?

After hosting the Sunday morning service can the church ensure that the rest of the week activities are wholesome and not having the level of vulgarity which we have seen on Tempo at times. Which is even worst than our carnival displays?

  • shame

    This is just disgraceful.

  • Hold up one minute!!!!!: ...

What I would say is that .... The Churches should not let themselfs "be used for political motives" and or "be bought".

What I would ALSO say is that .... The Churches, in no uncertain term, have given their congregations permission to enjoy Carnival and Night Clubs to the fullest, contrary to what they have been preaching over the years.

Tempo, while maybe promoting Caribbean talent, is without a doubt "one of the lead trendsetters" for much of the music, dance, distasteful (often times) disgracefully revealing fashion AND behaviour we see today amongst too many of our young people during Carnival, in the Night Clubs and on the streets.

The Churches should not have put themselfs in a position having to OR be praise(d)/ condemn(ed). They should have remained neutral and say thank you but no thank you ... Not in this manner. One must practice what they preach.

I am also quite sure that a "generous" donation will be made to the Churches for their blessings, endorsement and promottion. We should not have even heard about the endorsement by the Churches. What will they be preaching about??? The behaviour in today's society??? hhhmmm.

I (speaking for myself) have absolutely nothing against Tempo or the fact that they are hosting their Anniversary here. I however do have a problem with SXM having to dish out that kind of money for promotional purposes "TO" Tempo or any other individual, while we should be targetting a more "upscale/decent" Touristical Market via a "credible professional Marketing Org." AND especially while there are so many unsolved "financial" issues on the Island " ... At this time".

Ah boy ... That almighty dollar.

That is what I would say. ;-)

When the story broke, I said:
    Hpluv: ...
Mr. Morton is a brilliant businessman. He has a good product and a great marketing strategy.
I don't believe that $400.000 for the exposure we can get is exorbitant.

It is important to know how the island will be marketed.
Will we be the ones determining how the marketing will be done or have much input in how it's done.
Are we putting in place any mechanisms on how to measure the effectiveness of this marketing venture?
What did the previous 5 island pump into the concerts on their islands?
Personally, I don't believe St. Croix got a penny's worth of business from hosting Tempo.

Remember that besides government putting money into it, the residents also PAY to see the concerts. Our local businesses also have to PAY for advertisements on TEMPO.
So it is fair to a*sume that upwards of $500.000 will be sucked out of our economy.

I believe it is fair to ask how many of the TEMPO dollars will go directly into St. Peters, Colebay, Middle Region, Dutch Quarter, etc. The poor areas whose youth will be paying to see the TEMPO concerts.

    Just my concerns.

    Blessings!!!

It behooves the Tempo local rep, Peter J, to tell us what is in store for our youth.

    More Blessings!!

The evils which have grown out of the union of church and state in the third and fourth centuries will never be fully realized until the day of judgment. There is something in the nature of such a union which seems to make it desirable to many, even to professed Christians. Yet it is controlled by a spirit which is deceptive in its nature, active in its working; and whose end is evil and only evil.
That union of church and state was what formed the papacy-- a persecuting power-- seen by the prophet John, and with which the kings of the earth had committed fornication, and by the wine of the wrath of whose fornication the inhabitants of the earth had been made drunk. Rev. 17:2. This corrupt church is described as representing great wealth. "And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication." Rev. 17:4. Her iniquity is thus described in the fifth and sixth verses: "And upon her head was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration."

In forming this union with the state, the church entered upon a road which could lead only to destruction; for when the nations of the earth are represented as giving their power to the beast, their end is forcibly portrayed in the following words. "These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with Him are called, and chosen, and faithful." At the conclusion of the battle of the great day, the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, which were gathered together to make war with Him that sat upon the horse, are described as being cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. Rev. 19:20. Consequently the forming of this union was the final fall which thrust them upon that downward road which prepared, for final destruction, all who, whether professing Christianity or not, had partaken of the spirit of persecution. It was one of those sins which are generative in their nature, and in the end, place the soul beyond the reach of hope.

How important it is that we not only have correct views ourselves as to what are the proper claims of God upon us, and what those of Caesar, but that we may correctly present them to others. It is not infrequently that when we have spoken of the evils of a union of church and state, as applied to Sunday legislation, men of intelligence have remarked to us that it could not be possible in our day that any such bill would pa** Congress; and yet in the 1880's it was shown that those very kind of men signed the petition for the National Sunday Law [Blair Sunday Rest Bill of 1888], not realizi...

It is the "wine of fornication" (Rev. 14:8; 18:3) that leads to fornication itself. The word "fornication" means unlawful intercourse between the sexes. The church became corrupted through apostasy and imbibing various unscriptural errors. This resulted in her confused state called "mystical Babylon." And then Babylon, though she denied the name, was still espoused to Christ, and God had not forsaken her. In fact, He desired to heal and restore her wholly. She belonged to Him, and professed to do so. But when she turned from His remedy, choosing rather the errors of the world, she fell. When God in mercy sends His truth, in the eyes of her followers and of the world, Babylon must either give up her errors and accept the truth or attempt to justify the errors she holds. Contemporary churches have, for the most part, chosen the latter course. Now and then honest souls have, compelled by conviction of duty, sacrificed all and heeded the Shepherd's voice. But the church organizations have not done this. Their representatives have sought to defend their position, in what they consider a test, based on perversions of Scripture. Falling into this, they have relied on tradition, creeds, and worldly policy. Lying tradition and human wisdom having failed, they have turned and are turning more and more to the nations of the earth and imploring them to use civil power to enforce their unscriptural institution(s). In other words, they have turned from the power of the Gospel of Christ to civil law; from Christ, the lawful husband, and have committed fornication with the rulers of the earth. Breaking her union with Christ in her wantonness leads to unlawful union with the world. Rejecting Christ within the heart by faith,-- "the mystery of godliness,"-- means enthroning in His place "the mystery of iniquity." Rejecting the Gospel, His armor of righteousness and the Word of persuasion leads to the acceptation of the law of man, the carnal weapons, and the word of compulsion and tyranny.

The whole world is drunken with THE WINE of BABYLON. The only hope and answer for this confused state is the instruction of the mighty angel of Revelation, chapter 18: "And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power [Gospel power, Rom. 1:16]; and the earth was lightened with His glory. And He cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations [peoples] have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication [Church and State union], and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, My people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of...

Again i would like to point out that fools die through lack of wisdom.
Trying to figure out the ills of our society basing our references only to the council of bla bla on this island is completely narrowminded and shortsited.
I copied some biblical facts and posted it as proof of the broad aspect of complications relating to this subject and i hope that the length of the post doesn't discourage the Admin. form relaying it for the readers to have some idea of what fornication of churchand state means.

This is modern days people. The church need to be modern too. Nobody want to be boring listening to noisy chanting and boring sermons in churches anymore. Especially today's young children. That's for the old seniors who will soon leave us. And we all know that God aint real. Even the churches are proving it day by day. So do not blame them, they woke up and saw the real light.

The church must recognised the role they have in our society and in our culture. This lack of self respect is just sinful. The motives behind their religion is now clear. Sunday I don't want to see any of you.
