Ministers Break Ground for the Construction of parking area and drainage for Martin Luther King School.

mlkschoolgroundbreakingceremony28062012Dutch Quarter:--- At least three Members from the Council of Ministers, namely Prime Minister Sarah Wescot Williams, Deputy Prime Minister William Marlin, and Minister of Education, Youth, Sports, and Culture Silveria Jacobs participated in the ground breaking ceremony for the parking area of the Martin Luther King School in Dutch Quarter. The ground breaking ceremony took place on Thursday morning.
Minister of Education Silveria Jacobs was extremely excited and happy to be part of the project since she was the school manager of the Martin Luther King school for over a year. Jacobs said that the teachers, pupils, and residents of the immediate area suffered tremendously when there was heavy rainfall. She said while parking area will be built and completed before the beginning of the new school year, the department of VROMI is still working with the residents and landowners to work out a permanent solution for the excessive water during heavy rainfall.
Minister William Marlin said the paving of the parking area of the school is the first step of several projects that have to be conducted in the area. Marlin said government is working on building a school for children from 0 to 4 years old in the immediate area because many working parents cannot afford to send their children to play schools. He said a ball park (sports facility) was built next to the parking area but it was not completed. Marlin said government wants to make sure the entire top of the sports facility is covered so that the students of the Martin Luther King School can use the facility during school hours. "As it is right now, the students here cannot use it because it is not covered and it's too hot for young children to do their sporting activities there. Another vision is to expand the ball park so that youths from other areas can compete there.
Head of new projects Kurt Ruan, Minister of Education Silveria Jacobs, and Deputy Prime Minister William Marlin all called on the residents of Dutch Quarter especially those living next to Martin Luther King School to join hands and work with government as they try to find permanent solutions for the flooding that affects the entire area during heavy rainfall.
