Philipsburg:--- Police officers from countries within the Kingdom of Netherlands are currently on St. Maarten to celebrate Police Week with a host of activities. Chairperson of the organizing committee, Pico Simmons told SMN News that there are currently 250 visiting guests on the island. These persons came from The Netherlands, Aruba, Curacao, BES islands, and Suriname while St. Maarten is the host country this year. Simmons said that this year St. Maarten will be celebrating its 2nd Anniversary as country within the Kingdom with its own police force. He further explained that the Police Organization began celebrating Police Week since 1983 and the celebrations continued even though the Netherlands Antilles was dismantled two years ago.

The event kicked off Tuesday night where a welcome ceremony was held for the guests at Port de Plaisance. Welcoming of the guests and opening of the ceremony was done by the Chief Commissioner of Police Peter de Witte. The week long celebration continues on Wednesday with some minor games at the Emilo Wilson Park and Ladies night at Festival Village.
