Minister Jacobs leads delegation to Uruguay for UNESCO Meeting.

sjacobsleadsdelegationtouruguay12092012GREAT BAY (DCOMM):--- Minister of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, and Sports Hon. Silveria Jacobs and a delegation, left the island on Wednesday for Montevideo Uruguay, to attend a two-day consultation meeting for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Member States and National Commissions of Latin America and the Caribbean region, for the elaboration of the new Medium-Term Strategy.

Incoming UNESCO Secretary General representative Marcellia Henry is part of the Ministers delegation traveling to Uruguay.

The conference, which will take place from September 14th – 16th, will be focusing on Sub-regional consultations on the objectives, priorities and actions of the Caribbean and Latin America. Additional discussions will focus on UNESCO's cooperation with National Commissions, partners and network.

This includes the remit, terms of reference, and Latin American and Caribbean National Commissions' representation.

St. Maarten's participation in this and future meetings is essential to strengthen ties and cooperation between countries and territories within the Caribbean and Latin America.

During the two-day conference the Minister and her delegation will have the opportunity to network with regional and Latin members and delegates, and have open dialogue on the Program and Budget for 2014-2017.
