Philipsburg:--- A student of the Milton Peters College had to be admitted to the St. Maarten Medical Center early Monday morning after he was stabbed at least twice by a student of Sundial School while on a school bus. On Monday February 6th, 2012, Kevon Russell was on a school bus and for unknown reasons he attacked two other students that were on the bus. A student of Milton Peters College identified as J.H. was stabbed on his hand and also on his back. Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson said the student was bleeding profusely from the wound he sustained in his back and he had to be taken to the St. Maarten Medical Center for emergency treatment. Henson said another victim S.E. had a stab wound between her fingers while a third student was in possession of a letter that showed they were all threatened by the suspect. Henson said police managed to recover the weapon that was used in the stabbing and has since confiscated it.
It should be noted that the suspect was already in police custody in November 2011 when he attacked his mother and broke her jaw at the Sundial School. The 15 year old Jamaican youth identified as Kevon Russell was arrested after his mother filed a complaint with the police for ill-treatment. SMN News understands that the young man was released by the Prosecutor's Office after recommendations were given to his mother for him to receive after care treatment. SMN News learnt that the 15 year old youth was residing at the Keys to Freedom Drug Rehabilitation Center before he moved back in with his mother for the Christmas holidays. SMN News also learnt that the young man was also allowed to work with the Facility Services of Government under the guidance of Rick Martina when he was suspended from school. The source said Kevon Russell was accepted back at school but his behavior never changed.
Chief Prosecutor Hans Mos confirmed that police arrested K.R. and he is the suspect that was arrested for breaking his mother's jaw late last year.
Sources close to the Police Department said that the student will be handed over to the Court of Guardianship since it is not possible for police to keep him behind bars. SMN News learnt that the troubled young man might be placed at one of the Drug Rehab Centers on St. Maarten prior to arrangements being made for him to join his father in the United States.

Well well Well I was stand at the Milton Peters school today.
And I happend to be wachting the bus drivers.
Well there is this one particular bus that got my attendtion. I believe the drive is a middle age man from Jamaica or some other country. and he was playing soem real volgar music very very loud.
The music was only foul language. and the children getting on to the bus was like wild animals.
I believe such person should not be a school bus driver

I agree with Hmm, it's been awhile now that this bus driver plays volgar music and very loud. I made complaints already but guess what nothing has been done. If the bus driver dont show respect guess what the children going to do. We have to start from the top and work our way down. That bus driver needs to get his act together or replace him. Check tomorrow you going to hear the same volgar music and you will know who we are talking about.

This is really sickening. This is an incident that could have been avoided if proper measures were taken last year.

I agree with the suggestions to send him back to Jamaica and let him await his travel plans to the USA from there. He is not or should not be our problem. He is just a menace to society.

Sickening for real. What happens if he hurts one of the other kids in foster care or even his foster parents? If he could damage his birth mother like that, what would he not do to a stranger?????

Send him home.

Release him to the family of those children he stabbed. This youngster has a criminal mind and fears neither God nor man. If he could break his own mother’s jaw, then he is beyond control. Again, this damned justice system of ours has failed us. We do not have facilities for his kind and as such he should have been shipped out to his native country since last year. He is a menace to society and everyone on this island is in danger as long as he is allowed to stay here. Put his behind in Pt. Blanche until his mother comes up with a one-way ticket to J/A. There are people locked up in prison who have done far less than him. He is a criminal and treat him as such. Damned foolishness in this place! I bet if it was the prosecutor's child he had stabbed, they would have locked him up somewhere and thrown away the key for good.

This individual is a serious menace to society, first a full psychiatric evaluation, then lock him up in a facility for a long time, if you p***y foot around he will end up pulling the trigger on one if not more people, he has a taste for violence and that will not go away, he must be tried as an adult if found to be in full possesion of his senses.

Since he is acting like an animal, he should be treated like one. A solid old time cut a*s would straighten him up but no, the authorities say you cannot put your hands on your child so this is the end result. Had he broken my wife's jaw he would still be looking for his hand.

first let me ask what so special about kevon that he cannot be held in police cell? what happen if one of those kids was dead? ,do u honestly think he will stay in a Drug Rehab Center?
let us look at his track (1) he broke his mother jaw , she carried him for nine months and he shows no respect , (2) his behaviour at school then a stabbing on the school bus ,
what next a shooting at the school ?
he is no different from all the young boys from dutch quarter and st peters that are held for days in the police cell until their parent get a lawyer to help then ..

WHAT YOU SAY IS CORRECT.

MRS RHODA NEED TO DISGUISE HERSELF, AND HANG OUT AROUND THE SCHOOLS, AND I KNOW, SHE WILL RIPP THEM A NEW A$$.

IT IS WRONG WEHAT IS GOING ON, AND THIS VULGAR MUSIC IS WHAT HYPES THE CHILDREN UP, AND COMMIT CRIMES.

BUS DRIVERS SHOULD ACT LIKE PARENTS.

THIS PARTICULAR ONE, NEED TO GO BURN A COAL KEEL
HE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING PEOPLE CHILDREN.

BUT THEN AGAIN, YOU HAVE TO FIND OUT WHO IS WORKING FOR, BECAUSE APPARENTLY THE BUS BELONGS TO A BIG SHOT.

So a 15 yr old cannot be kept behind bars, but certain circumstances warrants this kind of punishment. If you are old enough to inflict harm on another person, you are old enough to go to jail. Stabbing someone isn't a pity crime.
The authorities needs to wake and realize that this young man is a criminal and should be treated as such. If no disciplinery action is taken and he is allow to go to his father when the time comes, we can only imagine the chaos he will bring to the people who he comes in contact with.

Our local boys as young as 14 can be locked up in police cells if they are caught with an ounce of marijuana bush on them or if they are SUSPECTED of doing something for which the police has zero proof. Yet, this violent and would be murderer from J/A is too good to go in those same cells? Well sa! We've gone from the friendly island to the island of coenoe-moenoes (damn fools).
His mother reported him to the police for severely damaging her and the justice system allows him to be free. What happened to the articles in our criminal codes regarding serious bodily harm and what should be done in those cases? Did the justice system forget they exist? Some young school children fight and they are placed in jail for some time and get a conviction. If this Jamaican’s mother had broken his jaw, she would have been placed in jail. Why is the law being selectively used on this island?
To those who say send him to his father in the USA, guess what, once you had any criminal contact with the law anywhere, the USA does not accept you to enter or transit their country. We need to get though like the USA with our immigration laws.

What if KEVIN RUSSELL, when growing up without his father around, loved to play house and carry around a toy baby in a sling was just smiled upon and everyone acted like it was just the ways things were supposed to be?

So, what would have become of the KEVIN RUSSELL today at 15 years of age if his mother had disciplined him & corrected his rude behaviour while still a TODDLER instead of labelling it “as cute” because of the stupid idea that boys are little wild creatures?

Is now he a teenager you want to discipline him, madame?

What good is going to come out of him sending him at this age & way too late... to be with his father whom he probably does not even know, nor never communicated with?

The school/education system in SXM is screaming and dying for some serious help. Teachers are not teaching because they are way to busy with correcting the students. Some schools you cannot even call that them a school cause look in what kind of state they are etc etc...Government cannot be bothered with that..why you ask?? well their own kids are attending expensive private schools so what the hell they care if it is not affecting them. I have never ever seen so many bunch of crooks and thieves as MP's in the world besides SXM who are filling their own (already full) pocket...people wake up and smell the coffee nobody cares certainly not this government......Real Sad

For the record, it was NA, William Marlin who started compulsary education here in St. Marten. Illegals and legals go can to school now and noone can stop them from entering the legal school system. What it boils down to, rude children who never knew what discipline is, making it hard for our legal school system. He felt great by opening the Charles Leopold Bell School in Cole bay. Right now that old school building is and has been invested with all kinds of insects droppings, Rats etc. William Marlin opened a can of worms and now UP/DP government has to deal with these problems at our schools. It ain't easy for our school managers either, trying to deal with the can of worms MP W. Marlin opened. He should call a meeting on what he started and Georgie boy should submit his 1991 questions to William Marlin. These things never happened in the past when attending school. What ?, going to school to hara*s others, for sure you ended up getting licks from your father/mother on the school grounds infront of other students. You think twice before playing or acting bad/rude again. Weapons? Never heard of them in the past during my school days. St. Maarten has really changed for the worst. smilies/angry.gif smilies/angry.gif smilies/angry.gif

@ Hello

I don't care who started compulsary education.
Our NEW country could have stopped it.

Compulsary education if your parents are working, and paying taxes, and you are legally here.
But this is not the way it is done.

Every child that need compulsary education get a Godmaother
and a Godfather, when they are here, and then screw
our tax money.

If you go to the united states, you can get education, but
you have to pay for private schools.
Public schools require to see your last 3 years filing taxes
then they get in. Otherwise, consider sending them
learning unlimited.

To hello

Don't compare a few bad apples with the whole bunch. At the time compulsory education started it was necessary or required. You people need to get rid of this backward mentally and stop being discriminatory about legals and illegals because it doesn't matter when it comes to a child having an education.

Criminality should not be acepted young or old. This level of violence needs to be addressed seriously. If the chap is not a dutch national then we should deport him. It is clear that his legal guardian on the island can not control him and it is only a matter of time before something else happens.

Conpulsary education I say no. It has caused many problems that is not worth it. If violent kids do not commit a serious crime it is virtually impossible to have them suspended, because of the compulsary education policy.

In my days if you wanted to play a bad man and be violent with weapons you were banned and your parents had to find a solution. No with todays policy the kids in the school system have to fair for their safety in school and in the school bus.

Why for just a few bad apples. Most parents that can refuse to allow their children on school buses. This is the cause of removing the power from the principles and school teachers to take action in having problem kids removed from the general school system.

If these kids have issues then they should be in a system for them that is equiped to deal with them.

Why should my child have to sit next a potential murderer when I paying for him or her to get a proper education.

The current management of the school system is making it almost impossible for the teachers to focus on teaching.

Lets stop putting the rotten apples next to our young people who just want to get a proper education.

Those that want a proper education will get the message that if you want to get aproper education you better get your act together and act as a normal human being.

Gone are the days when we had bus drivers like the late Tata (Mr. Brooks), when he tell you to sit and stop the noise , you think we could have tell him any thing all we had to do is shut and sit down and when we had respect for him and he took care of us like we were his children. 2 other bus drivers that were good and well respected were Doughy Fleming and the late Mr. Arrindell. You could have gone into scholls and discipline your child and dare that child to open their mouth to you, must less hit you back hahahah i have 4 children and they are all grown , they don't dare whisper a bad word around me,children will always be children , but if you do not bring them up of having respect and discipline then you get that. and again when we open our arms and take in all these people with different mentalities and they bring in their children with their customs this is what we get, God spare and bless our country St. Maarten and i pray it don't get like some of those islands around the place who are banned from the USA, we are still law abiding citizen.

So my question is was is Voogdijraad suppose to do? Find a foster home for this kid? I know for sure he wouldn't be coming in my house. Yeah! get him to his father in the United States, cause he will end up in one of those prisons as portrayed on the documentaries on channel 3 "Lock Up Raw". @ HELLO

It is better to let people think you are stupid rather than open your mouth and take away all doubts.
The root of Compulsory Education can be found in treaties signed by the Dutch Kingdom, which includes us. Over 20 years ago, St. Maarten had to implement it by Federal Decree, but kept p***y-footing with it until an ultimatum was given. It so happens that DP had imploded and a new government was there when the implementation date went into effect.
Stop shooting crap and go educate yourself before writing nonsense. We don't want the rest of the world to think that only idiots live on St. Maarten.
Furthermore, the issue here is a violent teenager and not compulsory education, special education, primary education, secondary education, or tertiary education.
