confiscatedguns03022012Cole Bay:--- On Friday February 3rd at approximately 1:00am, a Simpson Bay police patrol was directed to a yacht harbored on the premises of Port de Plaisance to investigate a case of ill-treatment. On the scene, police spoke to a man with initials T.E.W. from the U.S.A., who had a wound in his face. He stated that he was ill-treated and threatened by the captain of the yacht on which he was staying called "MARLENA". He also stated that the captain had several firearms on board the yacht. The patrol then spoke to the captain of the yacht with initials T.F.D. also from the U.S.A., who stated that he was also struck by the victim. The captain denied having any firearms on board the yacht and said if there were any firearms on board he had no knowledge of them. After contacting the acting prosecutor a search was done on the yacht. During this search one double barrel shotgun, two revolvers, and 116 bullets were found. T.F.D. was arrested on the spot for the illegal possession of fire-arms and ammunition, ill-treatment, and threatening. He was taken to the police headquarters in Philipsburg where he is being held for questioning. These weapons and ammunition were confiscated for further investigation.

Last week some one mention to the persecutor to search yachts as well, they are not innocent. You wonder how so many weapons are on the road.

That is why when you read in the papers "1 more gun off the street" it should not be anything to celebrate over. So many guns come in everyday on vessels entering St. Maarten that it is impossible to do anything about it by just controlling on land alone. And I only mentioned "guns" because I do not want to make our visitors feel unsafe after hearing what else comes in. The best motivator for action will be the day St. Maarten is put in the spotlight after the terrorists make use of these vulnerabilities.

I DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS, AS A CAPTAIN NEEDS GUNS
ON BOARD TO PROTECT HIS VESSEL.

BOATS ALWAYS CARRY WEAPONS.

MAYBE YOU SHOULD MAKE A LAW THAT THEY MUST BE DECLARED WHILE IN PORT, BUT TAKING THEM AWAY IS NOT THE SOLUTION.

ARE THEY GOING TO TAKE AWAY THE GUNS FROM ALL THE MEGA YACHTS ALSO????????????

Strange that this boat was even searched. Our Custom officers are very eager and happy to hara*s the local fishermen entering and leaving the lagoon. But turns a blind eye on the Mega and not so Mega yachts. Then we ask ourselves where the guns coming from. The problem is the cla*s justice on this island. There is a serious fire arms problem on this island which relates to an ethnic group. The relevant authorities would better give attention to this saga, if they are to avoid a blood bath. Let's not behave as though all is well. This island is a haven of crooks of all color and ethnicity. Watch it.

@ THANKS

you have my full support, because i am also a captain.
This type of behaviour by our law system makes no sence,WHY...America ..after 911 wanted to give aircraft pilots a
firearm to carry during there flights. So if this happend, would
the police force from St Maarten take there GUNS.
Because most of the aircrafts that make use of our airport is from America and so' is our tourist ships. .......... OK .....CHECK THEM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As captain of yachts you are allowed to have weapons on board your yacht. It was his duty to report to the authorities when he entered the lagoon that he has guns and ammunition on board his yacht. Failing to do so makes him a suspect.

Now just for you too know LAW AND ORDER.....as a man who serve in the military of curacao for seven years, i can take a 12 gauge shot gun bullet and put it in this same flaregun and kill someone...........dumb a*s!!!

Having weapons onboard would seem a logical defence to all those wouldbe pirates however, they must be declared upon arrival at each and every port of call.
