Philipsburg: ---- The island council meeting that was requested by the executive council on Monday June 21 had to be rescheduled due to a lack of quorum. Acting Lt. Governor Reynold Groeneveldt opened the meeting then adjourned it for 30 minutes for a lack of quorum. Even though members of the Democratic Party faction were in their seats they did not sign in for the meeting.
The meeting was to discuss the sanitary landfill and the new government administration building. Absent on Monday was Leader of Government William Marlin who is currently in the Netherlands, independent island council member Theo Heyliger who notified the governor that he would be absent, Maria Buncamper Molanus and Leroy de Weever.

Just before adjourning the meeting when it initially opened Acting Lt. Governor and Chairman of the island council Reynold Groenveldt called on island council member Roy Marlin to make sure he is properly attired when the meeting reopens. Marlin was seated in his chair wearing a white long sleeve shirt and tie with his coat thrown over the back of his chair.
Marlin was also eating a sandwich when the chairman addressed the council.
The island council member with his mouthful asked the chairman where he could find the dress code for the island council. He also contested that the meeting was not in session at the time. Marlin felt since there was no quorum and the chairman was only following the rules of order when he opened and adjourned the meeting it was not necessary for him to have on his coat. Groeneveldt in response to Marlin's statement said that even if there was no written dress code it is customary that all members of the council are properly attired when the council is in session.

In the meantime, the island council meeting is now scheduled to be called on Wednesday.

No self respect, no self discipline....and no respect for his superiors fi they are of the black like he is. Had it been a white Dutch man as chair person this Roy would do IT all to impres the white boss in order to "een wit voetje halen".

Isn't it the same Roy Marlin who wants us, the youngsters, to follow him as the leader of country St. Maarten?

Are you with this bahavior leading by example? You should return to working as a dealer in one of the casino.

Roy has been in there for the past 10 years and never had a problem before with his attire. I am sure if you go back through pictures of the Council meeting you will see where the, then, NA opposition Island Council members addressed the floor without their coats.

He was properly attired and had his coat over the back of HIS chair for when the meeting would be called.

The, still, Lt. Governor IS black and not once did he have an issue with the attire of the Council. I have always respected and admired Mr. Groeneveldt and I do hope that he is not going to lower his standards to the level of our present ruling government just to "haal witte voetjes" with our esteemed leader of government.

After all, he was mentioned as a candidate to be the first Governor of SXM. Now he does not want to lose that chance now does he? A Lt. Governor or Governor has to be impartial but only in SXM that does not seem to exist.

I hope our acting Lt. Governor understands that his appointment was politically motivated and that politics is biatch. Before he knows it he could be on the outside looking in.

With all the serious problems and decisions plaguing St. Maarten, the dress code is worth noting? Give me a break! This is the person leading us for now? Someone worried about dress code? which was not really breached.

Mr. groeneveld is a good man but has already been misled by his so-called political friends. That Roy had his coat hanging over his chair and is been called to order by the LT Groene4veld, FOR A MEETING THAT WASN"T OFFICIALLY OPEN is a joke. But this clearly shows that we're going have a long hot summer with these meetings ahead of us for country 101010. I hope it becomes country 202020.

EXCO should check itself

Eating at the council table was wrong of Roy but the Acting Lt. Governor was out of touch when he asked Roy to watch his attire. Roy had his coat but he knew the meeting had no quorum so he never mind putting on the jacket. Nevertheless, his attire was ready had the meeting went on. I think the Lt. is getting back at Roy for saying the government should not have appointed anyone new as acting lt. governor as we are just months away from Country. Nothing personal against Mr. Groeneveld in Roy words, but I guess he took it personal against Roy.

Mr. Groeneveld should asked the EXCO to check itself as they need to provide information to the general public whether requested by media, politicians or political parties. This seems like the issue here

I think Groeneveld was correct in calling Roy on his open disrespect(eating a sandwich) and his casual attitude towards the whole political process. Respect isn't a bad thing to demand of other professionals. It's the principle of it all that Groeneveld responded on and I find it refreshing and dignified. Roy in his tenture never quite understood the moral principle he had to the people of St. Maarten as their representative. Roy held his politically powerful position and it's rewards all for himself, with no remorse.

I hope the same governor cals the other members to order when they leave the council hall to go and talk on the balcony or leave the meeting and go to their offices only to return when it's their turn. remember what's good for the goose should also be good for the gander. Time will tell how political this nonsense will become.

This is a stupid discussion. Marlin was not out of place. The meeting hadn't started yet. He had a shirt on with tie. HIS COAT WAS HANGING OVER HIS CHAIR PEOPLE. This is just stupid, please find something more worthwhile to talk about.
