you say 5 murders in one week. what about the none fatal attacks and the number of armed robberies. Add them together and we have at least 3 cases per day.

You ask what is happening to this place ? well how about this, our officials both locally and federal are not taking our situation serious enough to take the necessary measures, like yesterday instead of tomorrow.

just to clarify some possible measures. 1 = cerfews and 2 = bringing some military police in to work with our local police and VKS officers, ....... on the roads, not in the station or behind a desk. 3 = stricter road controls and not just picking up old men women and children out of their beds in the early morning hours and saying we netted x amount of illegals while the criminals, at that same time, are out there robbing or killing someone else.

The police knows where the drug and gun markets are, even if not all, but many of the places are on public display. Raid those places. Until that is done, I don't want to hear that it has Govt. attention.

I agree with in shock , st. maarten saying we want to go independant, which i agree. however, we have alot to get in order the crime rate is out of control, we need more law on the street, to be a look out for the people. what happen, we don't feel safe anymore to walk the streets, or to the atm's. My deepest condolences to the family of the late Clive Lennox,
It is very sad to see that people would play God and take other peoples love ones life over material or disputes. And those criminal who take lives are damm cowards, why they can't admit to their crime if they are men or women.

I really hope that our governer will seek more help in ways of protecting our nation.

I left sxm in 1998 and went to miami to study graphic design. In miami, when you tell the students and teachers you came from the caribbean (St. Maarten), the first thing they would ask is if you came from the bahamas or jamaica. A girl in my photography class actually asked me if we lived on the beach with palm leaf roof houses.

A group of SXM students in florida set out to make people aware that sxm is "The Friendly Island". We went to conferences, met with student associations and all sort of stuff. Now, more than half of those who educated those individuals who knew little, are now ashamed to even mention SXM as prime location. As "a paradise in the sun".

It's just crazy.

Both govenments (french and dutch) should put money and effort into fighting the crime on the island. DO SOMETHING!!! not just talk...

They were quick to approve a budget for expanding the Harbour in Point Blanche, of late, I still haven't heard them say they have a new million dollar or million guilder plan to pump into fighting crime.

I mean come on!, you can put new side walks, put new trees, build a big a$$ government building in town, but you can't help the police force get new people?

Obama said it best.

"IT'S TIME FOR CHANGE!"

what do you all guys think about the ambulance department.every minute the ambulances are breaking down. It is very stressful if you have a emergency and you have to wait until the come off a call, most of the time the are very busy. The are under staff and they work for no money. Why can't the government look into things that are supposed to hold up the country, but of course if they get sick they can find to reach the airport. and travel on to the usa for better care.while the ambulance here suffers.
