protest25052010French Quarter/ Marigot: --- Parents, teachers and students of the College Mont des Accord and other high schools on the French side participated in a protest march on Tuesday protesting against violence in schools.
A delegation met with the President of the Collectivity of St. Martin where the concerns of the parents and teachers were presented. The protestors also formulated a petition which was presented to the office of Robert Romney, representative of the Rectorat.
students25052010Teachers and students of the French Quarter College were caught by surprise on Tuesday morning when they found the gates of their school heavily chained and padlocked. Directress of the institution Janine Hamlet said no one officially informed her of the protest march. She said while she is understands the need to stop the violence in schools it is rather anti-democratic for those organizing the march to lock down the school. Hamlet said she believed the gates were locked during the early morning hours and the gendarmes had to visit the school and cut off the chain and locks.
The gates of the College Mont des Accords were also chained and padlocked throughout the day on Tuesday.
Close to two hundred persons took the streets as they attempted to send a clear message to those in authority. Organizers of the march said that they spoke out constantly about the constant and increasing violence in schools due to overcrowding, security and other safety concerns and no one paid attention.

It's time for the Dutch side teachers to do the same. The school violence is getting out of hand. This nonsense has to stop. It's time teachers get the respect they deserve.

The students aren't learning. We are raising delinquent youths. The youth population consists of theives, murderers, and prostitutes.

St. Maarten it's time to wake up and face reality with what is happening to this beautiful rock.

It's time the Dutch Side teachers take back their cla*srooms and the schools. It's time the Dutch Side teachers get the respect they deserve.

WELL I AGREE WITH YOU, BUT I DONT KNOW IF YOU ARE FROM THE FRENCHSIDE. MOST TEACHERS THAT COMES HERE FROM GAUDELOUPE, MARTINIQUE AND FRANCE DONT COEM TO TEACH, THEY COME TO GET THE PRIME WHICH IS LIKE AN EXTRA MONTH PAY BECAUSE SAINT MARTIN IS CONSIDERED EXPENSIVE AND DANGEROUS.

THEY TELL THE KIDS WHETHER THEY LEARN OR NOT, THEY MUST GET PAY. THEY DISRESPECT THE KIDS BY CALLING THEM ALL KIND OF NAMES IN CREOLE. CALLING THEM STUPID AND ALL THAT. THAT IS WRONG. I AM NOT SAYING WHAT I HEAR, I AM SAYING WHAT I KNOW . I USE DOT WORK IN THE COLLEGE SO I KNOW. I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH ANY KID, BECAUS EI RESPECT THEM. WHEN I TALK TO THEM I ADDRESS THEM AS YOUNG MAN YOUNG LADY.

I AM NOT SAYING THAT GIVE NO KIDS RIGHTS TO DISRESPECT AN ADULT OR TEACH OR TO DO VIOLENCE IN SCHOOL OR OUT, BUT A TEACHER SHOULD RESPECT HER PUPIL IN ORDER FOR THEM TO RESPECT HER. SHE OR HE IS THE ADULT WHO HAS TO SHOW EXAMPLE.

ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS PRAY FOR OUR KIDS AND TALK TO THEM IT IS HARD ON THEM ALSO. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU AHVE GUADELOUPIAN TEACHERS TEACHING ST MARTIN BORN KIDS. IS LIKE YOU PUTING A SNAKE TO TEACH A FROG

I agree with Take back & Justice the main thing here it starts from home. If you don't respect your house and your parents how in Gods name are they going to respect others. We as parents must demand respect from our children and return respect our children also. I have to children a boy and a girls and every day I thank the LORd for giving me strenght to teach them to respect themselves , me thier mother and everybody. Today my son is 20 and studying abroad and if I did not teach him that where would he have been. The secretary of the school in the USA said he has so much manners and respect.
My motto to my children was and still is RESPECT , MANNERS, AND DISCIPLINE TAKES YOU AROUND THE WORLD. Those are the morals I thaught and still doing with my children. This has to start from home and it will continue.
We have to pray for our children.

that is why I tell the children the teacher done learn already and now it's your turn.

Wow, going to school nowerdays is nothing like when I attended school back in the days.
Teachers back then had a stromger grip on pupils and were din't dare try and disrespect or get out of line. I think I can only recall one incident in my time where a parent came and punched a school official(the secretary).. other than that nothing!
I thought about adding to my profession teaching, But iI said hell naw.... not with these children nowerdays who feel they are more big man and woman than you the adult!

Teachers were able to hold a grip on the kids because the community that we lived in was united. Parent(s) (single or both) raised their child(ren) with the help of the neighborhood. We were raised with morals.

Parents today changed that whole concept and are paying the price for that change.

Let us get back to the days where children had to be children and adults act and demonstrate as adults.

We need to be there for our children, but we cannot continue to be our children friends. One needs to be able to distinquish.

St. Maarten has several nationalities, take a look and see which nationalities are having this serious problem and ask yourself a serious question.

Some nationalities still has moral as the main aspect to helping raise their kids.

Something had tobe right with wath was done in the past raising children.

Dont spare the rod and spoil the child, what you show that shall you reap.

I'm a teacher, from Guadeloupe, I didn't get the prime, and I chose to live here. I
I have no problem with kids, but I want to say that even if a teacher comes for prime (if he doesn't come, who is going to teach?), he has the right to be respected.
When I was in school, they never told me to respect the teacher, only if he respects me. That was common sense that u have to be quiet in school, u have to work, and point!
You must know that pupils now choose which teacher they're going to respect/: that one is white : no need to be respected (and parents agree), that one is from Guadeloupe or Martinique, first experience, let's have fun§!
It happens to me to tell a pupil that even if he doesn't work, I'll be paiD : this is not disrecpect! This is a way to tell them that if they come to school only to have fun, and have trouble in the cla*s, it's not the teacher who is the loser, but themselves!

I don't feel like a snake teaching to frogs, because everyday I'm doing my best to help young people to have a good future.
The snakes are those in charge of the country, born in Saint Martin, only able to criticize, try tu turn a community against the other. They are sitting in an air conditionned office, faking they are working, but instead they are outside, doing their nails, hair, and etc. Except from trying tu raise the level of the island!
Violence can happen to anyone!
