comm._louie_lavesit-2005Philipsburg- Commissioner Louis Laviest newly retained lawyer Remko Stomp in a statement to the press that his client's arrest was arbitrarily and politically motivated and disproportionate. "Mr. Laveist is the last in a series of politically motivated arrests and most likely more will follow," Stomp said yesterday.
He said Laveist is fully willing to cooperate with justice department as stated before but will fight both false allegations and accusations.

Stomp said Laveist is expected to inform the public officially at the beginning of this week. And he will elaborate on his statements today.
Laveist is being investigated for forgery regarding work documents and was detained at the Pointe Blanche Prison for nine days.
During his detention last week, Leader of the Democratic Party Sarah Wescot-Williams said that based on the party's policies she had informed the commissioner that, he would have to resign while under investigation. Since Laveist spent over one week in pre-trial detention his portfolios was re-distributed among the other four commissioners.

In the meantime Wescot-Williams said she was unable to reach Laveist after the Federal Detectives released him last week.
The island leader said that she made several attempts to reach her colleague by telephone but unfortunately his telephones were apparently turned off.
During last week's Executive Council Press Briefing, Commissioner Wescot-Williams stated that because of the investigation against the Commissioner she hopes that he will "exercise good judgment" in light of the present circumstances.
Meanwhile, some of the friends of Laveist in the Netherlands Antilles are hoping that he does not resign from the Island Council and advises that he seeks proper advice before making any irrational decisions.

louis Laveist I advise you not to resign. This nonsense about resigning because you are under investigation is crap. Why I say that is as follows. An overzealous prosecutor trying to make a name for himself is trying to convict every politicaian that is making waves. Their are several persons in this community who trives on people being locked up without realizing that this could be state persecution by the prosecution. We have seen some strange tings happening lately. Anyone can be called in for questioning, that does not mean that you are guilty of something.. I fail to see how Louis could be guilty of forgery, while Maria moved thousands out of government owned companies into her private foundation and then disbursed part of it to the local calypsonians and to date we don't know how much was disbursed to her personal account. Louis should be mad as hell, because DP failed to remove Maria's campaign manager from the Labour Department despite the fact that Louis supported her with his vote for her to get back in the council. Louis played naive politics and was shafted. If he allows DP to shaft him again, then he will be the biggest BOBO in politics. He needs to scream loud and clear that he is not resigning and if they insist then become an independent. We cant trust this covert move by the prosecution. they are grabbing on straws to build cases on innocent people. After signing thousands of documents over 8 or more years they could always claim forgery. Up to date the public can only hear that Mr Laveist committed forgery. What the hell does that mean. Tell us the truth and we will understand. Tell us he recieved US50,000from an alleged businessman and granted that businessman false workpermits for ten indian or arab boys. Tell us something substantial so we could believe that this commissioner is a scamp and should be removed. Short of that go fly a kite Mr Prosecutor.

Dear patriot,

I think first of all you should lookup the meaning of patriot.

Secondly, please read what you have written. It is just a bunch of nonsense.

Ask Louis (you have to be close to him to try defending him like that) or wait for the prosecutor's side of the story before you come forward next time

Noub at the moment Louie is innocent until proven guilty according to the law...If he should resign then every other member of the DP part should resign as well.......Because he is openly being investigated then they cal lfor his resignation????? What a farce!!!! So what about the others who are involved in corruption within the party? Shouldn't they resign as well? And Guess what? I am not close to Louie and a matter of fact I do not even like the guy...,..but i honestly think that he is being treated fairly within the party....If he should resign then every one else should..If Maria and the others are not stepping aside then If I were Louie I would not move an inch

The best thing Louis can do is go independent, because the DP party wants him out. I know there are some rotting eggs in Politics, but Lou is innocent until proven quilty. So for now he should do the right thing and move away from the DP party!
