gebe22022010Philipsburg:--- The operational manager of GEBE power plant Kenrick Chittick told reporters on Monday that the current power outages from GEBE is caused mainly because GEBE have been experiencing some electrical failures with its two new generators. Chittick said while they have reduced the length of time for the power outages, the electrical failures they are faced with is nothing new or out of the ordinary. He said even with the old generators they are having the same type of problem; Chittick said on several occasions the engines just shut down because of a short circuit and tripping.

The operations manager said GEBE is also conducting its general overhaul for at least three of its engines namely 12, 15, and 16. These overhauls were postponed from last year and each of the engines would take a minimum of three to four weeks before the overhaul is complete. Chittick said the new generators that GEBE has purchased has caused the company to save monies and time especially when there are ground seas. He said the new engines have radiator cooling system verses the seawater cooling which normally clog their systems.
The operations manager said GEBE is also planning to purchase another new generator early next year so that they can compete with the supply and demand. Currently GEBE is supplying 53 megawatts during peak time while they have a 72 megawatts capacity.

GEBE is also looking into upgrading its waste management system to avoid future oil spills. Chittick said GEBE already have a waste management system, which overflowed last week. He said the company does not pump waste oil in the sea intentionally. On the contrary, they ship their unused oil to Trinidad at the oil refinery for processing.

What was the reason for the press release? Giving us some B.S. story as if we must say, oh ok, poor GEBE, we understand. I thought the idea of bringing in new generators was to solve the power outages. Now with these new ones the problem became even worse and telling us that this is nothing new? So are we to be happy living in the dark ages? Come on man, someone has to deal seriously with this nonsense.

Where is Brooks now. When he was put away for that short period things were a bit normal, he comes back and this is the crap we get. I hope the Chamber and all else get to wipe them out. I don't mind living in the dark if GEBE closes but as long as they are open we definitely do not have to take this crap. What does Govt. intend to do about this? Brooks has got to go. Bout he saving money for GEBE .... what about us the consumers who have to keep replacing our damaged items? How many homes will start having electrical problems because of this. Please stop this crap now.

SOLUTION

Ok this is my solution. Plan A: Let GEBE hook up their lines on French Side Electric system until GEBE get their problem fixed. Or plan B. GEBE distribute generators to all consumers until the problem is fixed. Or Plan C: Fly in some experts to take over and teach the GEBE workers how to maintain a power plant. Pan D: Every time GEBE cuts power, cut Brooks' salary. Make him feel it in the pocket. This nonsense got to stop. When my fan stop at nights, the mosquito's bite real hard and I cant sleep. Hot and thing. I wake up, go to work and sleepy on the job.

What a bunch of BS. Who does that team think they are kiddin' Spend over 30 million on new engines and "it's nothing new" that they fail? Chittick should be suspended just for saying foollishness like that. What an insult to the intelligence of grown folks.

Where is Mr. Brooks in all this. He allegedly gave himself a raise as he though he was doing such a good job as managing director and this is what we get for it?

The slogan on G.E.B.E.'s website states "Powering St. Maarten for over 49 Years" and for 49 years there is no more knowledge and competence to provide stable electricity for 16 square mile? It's only 16 square mile that they have to provide electricity for, for crying out loud.

What in the world is the Executive Council doing about that on behalf of the people of St. Maarten who have to deal with these issues? Life is stressful enough to have to constantly deal with all this electricity interruptions. Enough already!!!!!

Stop bashing your own, let us get behind Brooks and sue those people that sold us the new generators. We were sold lemons and Brooks is trying to make lemonade but it is costing him(distrust by the people) and us(money). Food for thought!

I am a resident of the french side and we rarely don't have electricity and if it goes it's only gone for about 5 minutes. We even have electricity during hurricanes. Many Dutch companies are allowed to provide their services on the French Side for example Carib Serve, Telcell and Sheriff Security. The Dutch and the French need to put their PRIDE aside and do what's best for the ISLAND as whole. The economy on the french side is suffering but they know how to provide the necessities like medical care, light and water. I suggest Dutch Residence petition to have EDF provide electricity on the Dutch Side.

It's time that someone stands up to GEBE. We are now living in a world were we can no longer except sorry as an excuse. Coming from as large company as this one it is very sad. We pay daily so much in electricity. Whats even worst is the customer service that we get from the cahiers as well. Plus on that we are out of electricily. Sorry this cannot go on on. GEBE is to big and to advance to be having these powers outages they need to fix it .

yeah edf here would be great only thing is its so cheap cuz its massively subsidized which makes sense, economy runs on power no power no economy...also i think they also have performance goals and if they fail (as in a power outage) they are penalised....oh and i also beleive in the french system everyone has a right to a minimum of power (even if you dt pay your bill they got to leave enough on for a couple light bulbs and your fridge) but thats french people they fight a lot for what they have we on the dutch side just complain and never take to the streets (no wonder brooks dt give a s**t)
