20 Immigrations Officers Graduated ---Carl John Recognized as Mentor.

immigrationofficers04022010Philipsburg: ---Some 20 immigration officers who completed the course on becoming an immigration officer from St. Maarten and Statia received their diploma on Thursday at the Philipsburg Police Station. Also receiving a certificate of recognition was Chief Inspector Carl John for being a mentor to these officers.

Congrats to the newly appointed officers. NOW, please do your job thoroughly and with a SMILE. Tourist see you when they first come in and when they exit. You can make a positive impression. In this world of terrorism, please be thorough. One time in November when I was leaving the island, there was a little bit of a line upstairs at immigratie in the airport. The immigratie officer came out of her booth and just looked at our pa*sports and boarding pa*ses. She never scanned the pa*sport or had a list of no fly ppl (unless she has all those names in her head). I was a bit annoyed because I was hoping no terrorist was on my flight or anyone else's and slipped through her carelessness.

Maybe they can follow-up with a Customer Service course?

Really, the attitude received by many of these ladies (why is there no balance between male and female imigration officers by the way?) when entering your own country is embara*sing compared to many other Caribbean destinations.
