Philipsburg: --- Police and the Coast Guard intercepted a boat with 32 illegal immigrants including an 11-year-old girl. According to a press release from the Police Department the boat with the name Agatha D. Grenada was intercepted on Tuesday in St. Maarten waters. Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson said the young girl was placed at the “I Can Foundation” while the adults mostly Haitians will be kept in custody, most of the immigrants that were on board the boat Henson said are female. Henson said the immigrants already informed police that were on their way to Miami when they were stopped at around 02:30 am on Tuesday morning.

An investigation is being carried out by the Immigration Department to determine exactly, who these persons are, where they were going and who is responsible for this boat trip among many other questions that have to be answered.

With exception of the 11 year old girl who is staying at the "I Can Foundation" all other persons will be held at the Philipsburg Police Station until the necessary steps have been taken for their safe trip back to their country, said the police spokesman. The vessel "Agatha D. Grenada" was also confiscated for further investigation. Prosecutor Reink Mud confirmed the interception of the boat. He said an investigation is currently taking place.

I would like to see more of this action. I guess a good tip was the reason we caught this boat. st.Maarten can't not take any more immigrant. I walk or dirve the streets like everyone esle and wonder how all of these people land on SXM. How many of those signing up now for the Brooks tower amestty program can show that they came thru Juliana Airport.
we would always have immigrants looking for a better life, my fellow man, our social services are burdened, out school cla*ses are bursting form the seams, we are now building schools to house immigrants. Stop the flow until we can decide who we need and how much we need.

Immigrants should leave their children home-our schools cannot be burdened any longer.
So now what? the foster home what was set up to take care of children on the island without parents have to feed and cloth this immigrant child? The foster home is already burdened I am sure with our own that they have to work hard to find funding to keep the foster children fed, with school uniforms and proper beds, furniture etc and school books.
The child should be sent back to her country of origin. We are not a half way house.
BTW>>.the immigrants are lying...they were on their way here-MIA is not around SXM. They say this so they dont get prosecuted here. I am sure the human racketeers who make the money tell them what to say

It is a fact that Dominica is now a major transhipment point for drugs and people. It has been so for awhile but has become much more active. Either the Dominican authorities are unable or unwilling to take control of the situation.
It was just a matter of time before the Agatha G was caught. Unfortuately the main cuplrit (the owners son) was not onboard on this voyage. His day and his brothers will come.
Haitians, Arabs, Asians and EC citizens all find it quite easy to move out of Dominica to SXM or the USVI. It is equally easy to transship drugs the same way.
