SSSD hosting workshop on “Applying to Schools in the Netherlands”

PHILIPSBURG:--- The Student Support Services Division (SSSD) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth, and Sport is organizing a free workshop entitled “Applying to Schools in the Netherlands” on November 6, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
This workshop is open to students in the last two years of secondary school or recent graduates and will be held at SSSD’s office which is located in the Amigo Building, across from the Police Station next to the Windward Island Bank (WIB) in Philipsburg.
According to SSSD officials, for some high school graduates, applying to schools in the Netherlands to further their education can be as simple as going to one portal imputing the required information, sending off the required supporting documents, and waiting for a response. However, for others the application process can be a tedious task and some may not even know where to begin.
“The aim of this workshop is to make the abovementioned process easier for students seeking to continue their studies in the Netherlands,” the officials said.
The ‘Applying to Schools in the Netherlands’ workshop is aimed at students from all sections of the diverse education system on St. Maarten. Whether you come from a vocational or academic tract or Dutch or English language of instruction, there is valuable information for you, SSSD officials noted. They added that the system and requirements in the Netherlands change so often that it is important for students to be aware.
“Some schools or programs may have as basic application requirements a high school diploma and decent grades but there are those schools that have additional requirements such as interviews, language tests and others. It is important that our students be aware and know what is expected of them,” SSSD officials add.
Students are encouraged to be on time and to register for the workshop since space is limited. SSSD officials reiterated that the workshop is from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM since it is getting darker earlier now and there is also limited lighting at night in Philipsburg. If parents or students have any questions on this workshop, they can contact the Student Support Services Division at telephone 543-1235 for more information. Students can also call 543-1235 to register for the workshop.
The Student Support Services Division (SSSD) provides services to students referred by the schools. These services consist of psychological services, counseling services, social work services, educational diagnostic services, career services, and parent education sessions.
