Paradise Casino Robbed Sunday Night, Police unreachable.

PHILIPSBURG: --- Paradise Casino was robbed Sunday night around 10:30pm by lone gunman who it is understood walked into the casino and placed a gun towards the cashier who willingly turned over the cash she had in her possession. SMN News understands that when the gunman got what he wanted he walked out of the casino without hurting anyone.
SMN News tried reaching Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson Sunday night but like always Henson did not answer his phone. SMN News reporter made several phone calls to the incoming Chief of Police Carl John who also did not answer his phone. Phone calls were also placed at the police station and the watch commander basically said that they are not permitted to give information to the media and that stronger efforts should be made to reach the Police Spokesman that are being paid to provide services to the media.
It is understandable that the Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson has to rest at night just like everyone else, but with the state of affairs on St. Maarten regarding crime should be a major concern for the police management team, including Henson and Deputy Chief of Police Carl John who will be taking over from Chief of Police Peter de Witte this weekend, they should be the first to say that the crime situation on St. Maarten is no longer acceptable and as members of the management team they now have to join the numbers on the road to combat crime.
While the Dutch and almost everyone on St. Maarten are speaking about integrity and crime one must realize that the police themselves are harboring criminals, especially when it turned out that these criminals are their own relatives and or children.
Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson has a son who is heavily involved in criminal activities and while this young man is a grown man; where is Henson’s responsibility especially when his grown son lives in his own house, stole his police radio in order to monitor the police and most importantly where was he when his son got convicted as an accomplice in an execution style murder that took place in Cay Hill. After Henson’s son was convicted by the court why did Henson, a Chief Inspector of Police did not turn in his son to the Police and or Prison in order for him to serve his time. Why this so responsible father and lawman allowed his son to remain free while living in his house to continue with his criminal activities until he was caught with a gun and ammunition on the French side where he was arrested and convicted.
This is not an attack on the police spokesman who is extremely arrogant and believes that because he is part of the management team he is above the law and can speak to his colleagues including the one he threatened when he found out that detective was working on a report against his son. Some of the questions that now arises is why did the Chief of Police Peter de Witte did not take full actions against Henson when Henson claimed he lost his police radio that police found in his son’s possession.
What role did Acting Chief of Police Carl John play in ensuring his driver and best friend was not properly reprimanded for his carelessness. Why is outgoing Chief of Police Peter de Witte remained silent in this matter since most of these things happened under his watch?
Some years ago the son of a CID gunned down two gas station attendants in Sucker Garden, many could remember the case of the two Haitian nationals that were killed in cold bold in an armed robbery. The father of the killer was on the team investigating that case but when one of his colleagues got wind that the suspect was the son of his own colleague and he needed to show that no one is above the law, and he arrested the young man and ensure that justice was served that detective up to this day suffered at the hands of the police management who did everything possible to stagnate him, to ensure he did not get any promotions even though he is qualified and even prosecutor’s turned against him for doing what was right back then.
Earlier this year, an officer of the law killed a young man in Belvedere and while everyone on the scene told the National Detectives what they saw, including a detective of the National Detective who received a phone call from his colleague who told him what he was about to do, it took almost five weeks before this rookie officer was arrested. The question remains who is protecting who and why police officers getting preferential treatment. Another case that SMN News recently published after two months is the case involving a female police officer whose child burn himself while they were left alone at home. Why is this case taking so long to be handled? What evidence does the National Detectives need to arrest this officer or to suspend her as they proceed with the investigation?
On Sunday several Members of Parliament took a swipe at Minister of Justice Dennis Richardson for his crime fighting policy and the new plan he was supposed to present to parliament last Wednesday. But so far none of the politicians and government even spoke of the lack of resources KPSM is getting, and tools. It took the life of a police officer before the Ministry of Justice decided to purchase bullet proof vests for the officers patrolling the streets, before that the excuse was there is no money. Why the Attorney General is not called in for his refusal to provide more to St. Maarten for police officers to fight crime? Or does the Attorney General also know that tools are not the only thing needed to fight and combat crime but it also takes the honesty of Police Officers to go after every suspect that commits crime. St. Maarten was labelled with class justice by a judge in the Masbangu (vote buying) case that took five years before it reached the court, and while the court and politicians criticized the leader of the political party that is involved in the case, one of the things that people don’t realize is that the culprits that sold their votes were police officers, and when the fight broke out inside the Police Station what did Acting Chief of Police Carl John did was try to push it under the rug, it took a reporter to question this case before Chief of Police Peter de Witte who was off island at the time did his own investigation before ordering an internal investigation into the incident. With the amount of incidents involving police officers of KPSM it is high time that someone do something to clean up KPSM and ensure that integrity starts with those in blue. Violent crimes committed on St. Maarten are at its highest and if those in blue are part of it then the people of this great country is indeed in trouble.
