EPIC Education Program starts again.

PHILIPSBURG:---- The successful Environmental Protection in the Caribbean (EPIC) education program that has been running since 2001 has started again. EPIC is a local non-profit foundation that carries out environmental conservation, research and education projects.

The foundation will be continuing it’s annual environmental education program by offering FREE educational presentations and various excursions for schools, clubs, businesses, and community groups starting September 30th 2015. In the past the foundation’s environmental education program has reached thousands of primary as well as secondary school students and other community groups over the years.

This term EPIC is offering presentations on the following topics: Effects of Global Warming, The Importance of Wetlands, Birding on St.Maarten, Hurricanes and their Environmental Impact, Island Biodiversity & Environmental Challenges.

Participants can also choose from various fun excursions including bird watching, kayaking, interacting with animals, beach or wetland cleanups and hiking. The foundation also is willing to work together with participants on requests for specific topics, excursions and projects.

Learning more about the environment helps people see how social, ecological, economic, cultural, and political issues are all connected. It raises awareness of issues impacting the environment upon which we all depend, as well as actions we can take to improve and sustain it. The educational activities that EPIC offers get participants outside and active. Excursions in nature foster sensitivity, appreciation, and respect for the environment. It is also a great team-building experience.

Schools, clubs, businesses and community groups that are interested in participating in the education program including the presentations and/or excursions can contact the foundation at This email address is being protected from spambots. The foundation urges schools to sign up soon to secure a spot. The foundation would like to thank Binkie van Es, TriSport and The Seaside Nature Park for their help and collaboration.
