Holding Public Office is indeed a family Affair on St. Maarten.

Former Purchasing Officer of GEBE to take over Ministry of TEATT.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Ernest Sams the uncle in law of Member of Parliament Leona Romeo Marlin will be taking over the Ministry of TEATT as Minister Claret Conner moves over to the Ministry of VROMI. SMN News published months ago that Sams is the candidate that was selected and will be appointed by Member of Parliament Leona Marlin Romeo who is now an independent member of parliament. Marlin Romeo selected her uncle in law after several persons she contacted refused the offer after they were told that Romeo Marlin would have appointed her sister as Secretary to the Minister and her campaign manager as the “chef de cabinet” director of the Minister’s cabinet. Sams who returned from the Netherlands some years ago took up a position at GEBE utility company where he functioned as the company’s purchasing officer until his retirement.
While some Members of Parliament pretend to care about the country, its youths and the total well-being of the people; it is clear that getting elected was meant for these people to either set themselves up or to place their close relatives in positions that will earn them the biggest salaries, pensions and perks. Ernest Sams is in retirement, he has no experience in the tourism industry and while St. Maarten has to now compete against Cuba, the government has chosen to place someone that has absolutely no experience and knowledge in tourism in the country’s main Ministry that has to guide, build and promote the country’s economy.
SMN News learnt from reliable sources that the UPP Members of Parliament are up in arms with their leader who chose to give the Ministry to MP Leona Marlin Romeo and also with the person that will be taking over the Ministry from Minister Claret Connor. However, these MPs that are grumbling cannot say anything neither can they leave where they are at this current moment because having a $10,000.00 salary, free trips around the globe, travel allowance and a diplomatic passport is not guaranteed if new elections is held tomorrow..
Several youths on St. Maarten contacted SMN News when they realize that certain politicians played with their feelings during the 2014 Parliamentary Elections. These politicians made humongous promises to the youths of this country but today when they need the politicians to secure their jobs and get rid of the short term contracts that is hindering them from even earning minimum wage none of them can be found. Young qualified professionals that have returned to the island to work for their country cannot secure a job in the legislative branch or in the civil service because they are so called over qualified. Both candidates that are bieng screen to fill the two ministries are men that are currently on retirement while St. Maarten youngsters that are qualified and ready to work remains jobless.
