New Lions Club Officers Installed

lionsmem01072015MAHO:--- The St. Maarten Lions Club held the annual installation ceremony of its 2015-2016 incoming board on Saturday June 27th 2015 at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort. The club will be led by club member of five (5) years Lion Eldert Louisa as Club President, with the support of Lion Carmen Lake, who was elected to serve as the club’s new Secretary and Lion Claudio Buncamper MJF who was elected as the club’s Treasurer.

Other board members are Lion Sunil Khatnani Immediate Past President, Lion Davey Woods
1st Vice President, Lion Christ’l Larmonie 2nd Vice President, Lion Alison Busby 3rd Vice President, Lion Michael van Grieken Tamer, Lion Alphons Gumbs Tail Twister and Lion Oralie Boirard as Membership Director. The following members were installed as Directors, Lion Henry Ellis, Lion Selma Baker, Lion Jennifer Johnson & Lion Sandra Hennis. Lions Club President Eldert Louisa shared with his fellow Lions at the ceremony: “I am is looking forward to leading various projects and continuing the St. Maarten Lions Club’s commitment to serving the community”. The outgoing President Lion Sunil Khatnani also gave a number of awards to various club members for their hard work during the year. Lion of Year was awarded to Lion Oralie Boirard.

The St. Maarten Lions Club is now entering its 45th year this coming December. Ever since the club’s chartering in 1970, its members have worked on a variety of projects in the local community, such as the Lion Rudy Hoeve Health & Wellness Fair and the Lion Nelson van der Linde Senior Citizens Celebration. Proceeds from the club’s various fundraising events such as the recently renamed Lion Wally Havertong Bingo Spectacular, have gone to projects such as the donation of eye-glasses to the community and the Student Excellence Awards. The club launched the Youth Alcohol Use & Abuse Awareness Campaign in 2014 a its signature project. This campaign is one that is also close to the club’s incoming president and he intends to continue focusing on changing the permits law and expanding the already started awareness campaign.
