Rotary Sunrise installs new board.

rotarysunrise30062015PHILIPSBURG:--- Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise installed the board members for the year 2015-2016 at a dinner held at Moomba Restaurant on Friday, June 26.

Outgoing President Dr. Virginia Asin thanked her fellow board members and entire membership for their support during the year. She highlighted some of the programs that were executed for the year such as a day girl camp on confidence building and empowerment, celebrating Christmas with foster children, treating foster children to a three course meal and given table etiquette rules, foster children were also treated to a 3 day environmental camp, and a luncheon that was held to honor caretakers of foster children.

Rotary Sunrise annual service projects such as eyeglasses for students, Readers Are Leaders literacy initiative, breakfast programs at various schools and back to school supply project were executed as well. Dr. Asin was extremely proud of the purchase of a fundus camera for the White & Yellow Cross to help with screening the eye of patients with Diabetes Mellitus in order to prevent blindness. She expressed thanks to her fellow Rotary Club presidents and the Rotary family on the whole for their partnership throughout the year. Also, thanks were given to Rotary Sunrise business partners who have contributed to projects and programs.

Incoming President Marcellia Henry will once more lead Rotary Sunrise for the 2015-2016 Rotary year. With the Rotary International theme “Be a gift to the World”, the newly installed president is echoing the sentiments of Rotary International President K.R. Ravindran that Rotarians are to use their talents, expertise and leadership to lead their clubs and transform the lives of others. In addition to District Governor Felix Stubbs call for turning “Success to Significance”. She looks forward to encouraging, strengthening, and utilizing what she deems the core elements of the club which is using their talents, expertise, leadership skills, and service above self mentality to help transform the lives of many in our community. She thanked all past presidents of the club and encouraged members to remain forward thinking, groundbreaking and vibrant.

The new Rotary Board consists of: President Marcellia Henry, Vice-President Angela Gordon, Immediate Past President Dr. Virginia Asin, Secretary/President Elect Okama Ekpe Brook, Vocational Service Director Agnes Kapoor, Treasurer Sidharth “Cookie” Bijlani, Sergeant at Arms Damali Bryson, Membership & Club Service Director Valda Woodley Hazel, Club Administration Director Monique Alberts, Community Service Director Agnes Kapoor, Public Relations Director Kameela Piper, Rotary Foundation Director Dr. Virginia Asin, Fundraising Director Prakash “Peter” Dialani, New Generation Director Paula Gordon and Club Disaster Chair Dr. Virginia Asin.

Rotarian of the Year plaque was presented to Agnes Kapoor, while Rotarian of the Year certificates were given to Prakash “Peter” Dialani, Sidharth “Cookie” Bijlani, Valda Woodley Hazel, Damali Bryson, and Joseanne Peterson.
