Parents Claims Racism Exists at Cul de Sac Elementary School as Gendarmes Investigate Allegations of Abuse.

culdesacelementary20052015No one ever filed complaint of racism says Captain Jouault.

Cul de Sac:--- Several parents mostly of colored skin whose children are attending the Cul de Sac Elementary School told SMN News Tuesday that they and their children are victims of racism at the school. The parents spoke to SMN News on the condition of anonymity fearing further victimization. They said just last week most of them got phone calls from the gendarmerie convoking them and their young children that are between the ages of (7 and 8) years old.
They said when they first got the phone calls they were scared because they were not told what their children did wrong at school. As for the children they said were traumatized because the children did not know what they did and if the gendarmes were going to arrest them. Two of the parents whose children were interviewed last week said that when they reached the gendarmerie the gendarmes wanted to speak to the children alone but they refused to allow that to happen. They said when they heard the questions that were asked to their children it was only then they realize that some parents came together to get rid of the principal of the school whom they said is a local and have decided to implement the school rules from time she took up her position there last September. The parents said prior to taking office the metropolitans parents were doing what they want. "Some of them would march in the school at any time and abuse the workers and teachers and even insult children. But since the new principal took office all of that stopped because parents have a specific time they could enter the school yard and if they have a problem they must report it to the office and not attack the workers."
The parents said that the school has about 260 children in attendance of which 90% are from Metropolitan France while the other 10% are of local origin. The parents said for years their children are being victimized, abused and insulted by the metropolitan children and their parents and nothing has ever been done to address the issue. The parents further explained that on Tuesday several metropolitan children were telling the colored children that come September 2015 there will be no more colored children attending the Cul de Sac Primary School and the local principal will also have to go.
The parents first sent out an open letter which was published on SMN News "letters section" on Monday but they have decided to come forward after they overheard what some of the children were saying on Tuesday in school. Furthermore, they said they have taken years of insults from a particular metropolitan teacher who was teaching in French Quarter and is now at the Cul de Sac Elementary School. "We believe that this teacher is behind the scheme of getting rid of all black children and the black principal because that teacher was with a black man with whom she got a child and that child died when he was 10 years old from some grave illness. Ever since that teacher child died she became bitter and hates black people because she kept saying that a black man gave her a sick child that eventually died." "We know this is a plot because the white parents held a meeting and they only invited the white parents and not the black parents to the meeting. These white parents even had a petition circulating in the school to get signatures to get rid of the principal and they did not get the amount of signatures they expected."
The parents said that they are not blaming the parents of the metropolitan children alone or even the children whose parents they say are telling them what to do and say to the colored children but they are laying the blame squarely on the Collectivitie of St. Martin where inscription takes place. The parents said children that are living in Nettle Bay, Grand Case and Oyster Pond gets into the school because of their color while colored children living in Cul de Sac cannot get into the school where they live.
SMN News spoke to some of the employees of the school who also said that they are facing a tremendous problem and there is simply nowhere to go to get justice. The workers said that when some of the parents take their children to school they will make them know that they are the wives of gendarmes. One worker said not long ago a parent took his child to school at 9:30am and the principal sent him home back with the child because that child was supposed to be in school at 8am. The worker said when the parent was leaving the school he said very loudly that the "black nigger" will soon have to go because he will ensure she is kicked out of the school.
Another worker said that she was hit with a key in the face and the CTOS said they would deal with the problem but to date nothing was done. They said that everything that is happening at the Cul de Sac Elementary School is known to the COM but no one is addressing the issue.
In an invited comment Captain of the Gendarmerie Slyvain Jouault confirmed that the Gendarmerie is conducting an investigation and they are indeed questioning under-age children. Jouault said he cannot give any details of the ongoing investigating but denounced the allegation of racism that the parents said in their open letter that was published on SMN News. The Captain of the Gendarmerie further stated that they took note of the letter that was published on SMN News. He also said that to his knowledge no one ever filed a complaint with the Gendarmerie regarding racism at that particular school. Jouault said he has full confidence in his workers and when the investigation is completed a report will be sent to the Prosecutor for them to take a decision on whether or not they will prosecute those that are accused of abusing children attending the school.
