MULLET BAY:---- Jesus Rivera shot one of his best tournament rounds last Sunday to win the May Medal Play Golf Tournament organized by the St. Maarten Golf Association SMGA. Due to the challenging state of the golf course as a result of the ongoing dry weather, only a small group of 24 golfers conquered the golf course. Anne Marie Bouille won Overall Low Net with a score of 64 after deduction of her 23 handicap.
Rivera, who finished the par 70 Mullet Bay Golf Course with only 3 strokes above par (73), stayed 5 shots ahead of his closest competitor Marc Grenouilleau. As a result Rivera won both the Overall Low Gross for the tournament, as well as the 1st Low Gross prize in the Men's category. In the same category Grenouilleau won 1st Low Net with a score of 65 strokes after deduction of his 13 handicap.
The Ladies Category had a total of 4 participants this time. 1st Low Gross was won by Anne Marie Bouille with a score of 87 strokes, 1st Low Net was won by Gitte Poulsen with a Low Net score of 69 strokes. Poulsen was also the player with the fewest amount of putts needed during the 18 hole stretch. She played the course while needing only 25 putts.
In the category Senior's for players between 50 and 60 years old, 7 participants battled it out. Philippe Thevenet won the prize for 1st Low Gross with a score of 79 strokes, 1st Low Net was won by Didier Bedu with a Net score of 65.
In the Super Seniors Category for players over 60 years old, 1st Low Gross was won by Keith Graham with a score of 83.
The May Medal Play tournament was the 7th round qualification for the 2015 St. Maarten Golf Team that will compete in the Eastern Caribbean Golf Championship that will take place in October in St. Maarten at the Mullet Bay Golf Course.
