Rotary Club Draws for Lucky Winner of the Audi Q5

rotaryaudiwinner06062015PHILIPSBURG:---- Several months of ticket sales came to an end as on Sunday evening at Festival Village, the Rotary Club of St. Maarten drew the winning ticket for the Audi q5 in front of a packed house. Michael Granger, the President of the Carnival foundation drew the winning ticket and was supervised by Notary Meredith Boekhoute and a Government controller. Many hopeful onlookers checked their tickets to see if they had the winning ticket called #8000. The winner did not have to be present to win and this ended up being the case, so Rotarians called the number on the ticket, and informed the lucky winner that she had just won a 2015 Audi q5 worth over $50,000. The following morning, live on Island 92, the ticket holder Sandra Masiellos showed proof of the winning ticket and was handed over the keys to this amazing car. "I am still in disbelief as I have never won anything in my life. This is so amazing! Look at this car!" Sandra said with tears of joy and doing a 'Happy Dance' as one Rotarian called it. Sandra had purchased two tickets for the raffle not feeling she would win, but rather knowing that the funds raised go to a good cause. She was a guest of the Rotary Club along with a friend at their regular Wednesday meeting at Divi to tell her story about what went thru her mind when she heard she had one. The whole club was there on hand to congratulate her.

"Rotarian's worked tirelessly out and about selling tickets and sorting and reconciling. One in particular, Fred Van der Piejl sold 7,000 tickets on his own by setting up in front of Le Grand Marche almost daily and relentlessly visiting various businesses for their support. This is truly an amazing accomplishment" said Deepak Ramchandani, the Rotary Club's President. "In all there were about 12,000 tickets sold and while only one ticket won a car, everyone is a winner; especially the children of St. Maarten as the funds raised go directly back into the community. Our club has a focus on the Youth in terms of education, literacy, health, and after school well being. The car changed the life of one lucky winner; but the funds raised will touch the lives of several thousand. We could not do this without your support" he continued to say.
