Volunteers, NGOs, Businesses get excited for SXM DOET in March.

sxmdoetteamwithniatalent26012015CAY HILL:--- On Friday January 23, 2015 Be The Change Foundation and SXM DOET Team held a kick-off party and information session for local organizations, potential
volunteers, and businesses on St. Maarten at Belair Community Center. The kick-off  party was held to further develop awareness of what is surely to be the largest volunteer
event on St. Maarten to date.
SXM DOET will be a kingdom wide 2-day event held on March 20 and 21, 2015.Melanie Choisy of SXM DOET and Be the Change Foundation gave a 3-part
presentation to a full house on what SXM DOET is, and how individuals and organizations can participate. She stated that thus far SXM DOET has over 270 volunteers registered to help out local
organizations with various tasks, projects, events and activities throughout the Dutch side, as well as 14 organizations who have submitted projects so far.
Some of the projects that have registered for SXM DOET already include the St. Maarten AIDS Foundation, Animal Defenders, No Kidding With Our Kids Foundation, the
St. Maarten Zoo, the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex, the Philipsburg Jubilee Library, EPIC, SIMARC and the Sister Marie Laurence and St. Joseph Primary Schools, to name
a few.
These organizations have listed their projects on www.sxmdoet.com and volunteers interested in lending a helping hand can also register on the website.
Entertainment was provided by National Institute of Arts. As she introduced the various artists, Melanie mentioned that having a talent or skill of any sort, such as a beautician, a photographer, singer, or dancer, can also be a way of volunteering one's talent to another and could be an interesting type of project for SXM DOET. Drinks, snacks, refreshments and even customized cupcakes provided a fun-filled
atmosphere with many of the island's most active organizations in attendance. Melanie urged attendees to act quickly, and she urged them to think creatively.
NGOs, schools, foundations, clubs and sports teams have until the 31 January to register their projects on the website. Applications for funding must be completed by
February 1. Volunteer corps, business teams, and volunteers (individual or groups) can register up until March 14, 2015. This is the first time this event is being held on St. Maarten, but it has been very
successful on Aruba (ARUBA DOET), Bonaire (BON DOET) and Curaçao (CURA DOET). SXM DOET expects that St. Maarten too will have a successful event. It is a very unique opportunity for the community to come together and help each other out.
Together We Achieve More!
