PHILIPSBURG:--- On Saturday January 17, the St. Maarten Zoo hosted children from the I-Can, New Start for Children, and Hope Outreach children's homes for a fun day at the Zoo, just for them!
Since the Zoo fell back into the hands of the Foundation in December 2012, the Board has made it a point to host an event especially for St. Maarten's foster children each year. In 2013 the Zoo hosted Christmas at The Zoo where generous people in our community donated gifts that were then personally presented to the children by Santa at the Zoo.
This year, the Board decided to host a fun day filled with games, activities, and pizza just for them! The children were first taken on a tour of the Zoo to learn about the many different species of animals that live there. Following the tour, Zoo volunteers played various games and contests with the children and in the end, each child was awarded with a big, teddy bear donated by Cake House Supermarket & Bakery. This fun day was made into a success by the generous donations from Cake House, Chesterfield's, and Dominoes Pizza.
