PHILIPSBURG:--- A customs officer identified as Rasida Serrant, who is the daughter of the Minister of Justice driver got herself into trouble shortly after she was sworn in at the Belair Community Center Tuesday evening.
InselAir St. Maarten Manager Alanso Hassel told SMN News in a exclusive interview on Wednesday morning that he was in front of his house at #30 Fort Willem washing his vehicle when he saw a white vehicle bearing the number plate L1 swaying on the road going through Fort Willem. Alanso said at one point he braced himself on his vehicle when he realized that the driver (Rasida Serrant) who was fully dressed in the customs uniform was going to hit his vehicle. Hassel said the young customs officer did not seem to realize that she was going to hit him and his vehicle because she was busy speaking to another female that was in the car with her. "At one point when I saw that the car was going to squeeze me and also hit another vehicle I jumped to back of my pick-up truck. As the vehicle was passing I tapped on the car to alert the driver (Rasida Serrant) of what she was doing. The driver stopped the car when I tapped on it but before I could finish speaking two men "hoodlums" jumped out from the back seat and began beating me. The first guy took out something from inside his pocket that looked like a gun and he struck me on my head, while hitting me he said a number of times that he was going to kill me." Alanso said he began struggling with the young man to make sure he did not get shot or stabbed by the two men that were in L1 which is a vehicle that belonged to the Ministry of Justice and is driven by Marina Serrant. He said during that struggle he managed to take control of the young man and was about to throw him over a wall when the second man jumped out of the car and lashed him twice behind his right ear. The victim said that he then continued to fight off the two attackers and he fell down a number of times from the blows he was receiving, he said even his slippers bursted and the only thing he could hear is Rasida Serrant telling one of his attackers "stop babes, stop babes" while the other female that was inside the government vehicle came out of the car and began pulling away one of the young men that turned out to be her son. Alanso said the woman who was with the other persons in the car is an employee of GEBE.

Police refused to go the scene.

l1justiceministrycar19112014Alanso said as soon as the struggle was over he called the police station and asked that a patrol visit the scene because he was in endless pain. He said the police officer told him that they were not going to go there and that he should try and get to the St. Maarten Medical Center and see a doctor and when he is finished he could visit the police station on Wednesday morning to file an official complaint.
Alanso said despite the pain and his condition he drove to the St. Maarten Medical Center where he did a number of tests including a scan. "I was at the hospital until 2am Wednesday morning, the doctors even gave me an injection to ease the pain, but I still have a lot of pain behind my right ear and knees because I fell down so many times during the struggle, and while the police refuse to assist me Tuesday night when I needed help, they kept calling me this morning to go to the police station." Alanso said he spoke to a number of senior police officers including the Chief of Police Peter de Witte while he was at SMMC.
