Philipsburg– On October 1 Colorado State University hurricane forecasters Phil Klotzbach and William Gray came out with their October-only forecast and they expect three named storms to form somewhere in the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico or the Caribbean Sea.

Of the three named storms, two are expected to become hurricanes with one reaching major hurricane status with winds over 111 miles per hour.

On Wednesday Tropical Storm Laura which was located in the far North Atlantic Ocean lost its tropical characteristics about 315 miles East of Cape Race Newfoundland according to the National Hurricane Center.

“The devastation caused by the most recent storm systems still has persons living in dire straits, especially in Haiti.  We must be mindful of what they are going through and as individuals assist in whatever way we can by supporting initiatives that are on-going to help these persons.

“Conditions are still present to support the development of a dangerous hurricane, and therefore residents should continue to pay attention and monitor weather reports.  Continue to maintain a state of preparedness for the months of October and November,” Chairman of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Governor Franklyn Richards told the Government Information Service (GIS) on Wednesday.

The hurricane season runs through November 30.
