Police made several arrests for robberies and firearm possession.

PHILIPSBURG:--- On Monday September 23rd, 2014 at approximately 4:30pm, an urgent phone call came into the Police Central Dispatch informing them, that two young men had just robbed two tourists at the Mullet Bay beach and after committing this act ran towards the golf course. Immediately a police patrol was sent to the area to investigate. When the patrol arrived on the scene they saw the victims who at the time were running across the golf course in pursuit of the suspects. The officers followed the victims into the nearby bushes where they encountered the two suspects who were hiding between the bushes. The victims, both U.S. Citizens and students at the AUC, stated to the officers that the two suspects with initials J.O.M (18) and H.H. (20) were the ones that stole their belongings and during the chase had thrown their belongings into the bushes. Both suspects were arrested on the spot and taken to the Philipsburg Police Station and place into custody for further investigation. The victims filed an official report with the detective department.

Three suspects arrested for fire-arm possession.

On Tuesday September 23rd, 2014 at approximately 11:35am, the security office of the Grand Marche in Cupe Coy called the Central Police Dispatch and informed them that three suspicious young men had driven on to the property in a white Toyota Yaris with license plate R-141. They stepped out of the vehicle, walked into the supermarket and looked around quite suspiciously. They then stepped back into the vehicle at left. When the security tried to stop the vehicle before leaving the premises the driver refused to stop, he increased speed and drove into the direction of Simpson Bay. Having in mind that this supermarket was robbed two days prior by three armed and masked men, the police was immediately informed. A police patrol saw the suspect vehicle driving on the Causeway Bridge. Assisted by another patrol the suspect vehicle was stopped and the vehicle was searched. During this search a pistol and other items that can be used to commit armed robberies were found in a black backpack which was lying on the backseat of this vehicle. These items along with suspect vehicle were confiscated for further investigation. The three suspects with the initials L.J.E. (18), M.A.E. (17) and M.V. (18) were all arrested on the spot and taken to the Philipsburg Police Station where the suspects remain in custody for questioning.

Major fight at the Sundial School.

On Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014 at approximately 12:30pm, according to the incoming reports a fight had broken out between a student from the Sundial school and another young man hanging around the school area. The situation got very serious when numerous bystanders for unknown reasons got involved in the fight causing the Central Dispatch to send several patrols on the scene to break up the fight. On the scene it officers intervened in the situation but those involved in the fight turned on the officers causing the officers to use some force to get the situation under control. Even parents of one of the students got involved and stated that he did not approve of the way his son was handled by police. A total 5 persons were arrested in this case for public violence. It is still unclear what the cause of the fight was. This case is under investigation.
