GREAT BAY (DCOMM):--- Vice Consul of the United States of America on Curacao Solmaz Sharifi recently paid a courtesy visit to the Division Study Financing.
This visit was highlighted by a generous donation of catalogues, university and college guides, as well as other useful preparatory material for students interested in pursuing their education in the USA. This donation came about through consultations with the previous vice consul Mr. Moore.
During the meeting the Vice Consul also gave an update on her efforts to expedite the process of Sint Maarten students receiving their US student visas on time.
The Vice Consul commended Sint Maarten for the great emphasis being placed on the preparation of students to study and live abroad, the opportunities to for affordable higher education being providing through the Sister City agreement with Tallahassee and the MOU's with other educational institutions like MONROE and JWU.
Present at the meeting on behalf of the Division Study Financing were Division Head Antonio Aventurin, Senior Study financing policy advisor Calvin Mardembrough, study financing officers Angelique Gumbs-De Weever and Laurel Marlin.
Also in attendance was Michel Chance who is a career guidance counselor at the Student Support Services Division. The Vice Consul was accompanied by Danice Domacasse.
The Division Head on behalf of the Government of St. Maarten, expressed gratitude for the kind gesture and agreement were made to schedule an information session for students and parents during the Vice Consul's next visit.
