Review of the Last Governing Term --- Part IV.

timeforreviewfillin24082014PHILIPSBURG:--- SMN News continues with the review of last governing term to remind voters of some of the things that transpired over the last four years in this edition focus will be placed on the Brooks Towers Extension that landed several persons in prison including a civil servant that served at least seven Lt. Governors on St. Maarten. At least eight persons were arrested. When the case was taken to court the judge made clear that the chaos in the Brooks Towers Extension procedure, the lack of a clear policy allowed the workers that were working on the files to commit crimes.

During the past four years several Members of Parliament filed complaints against each other. Member of Parliament Romain Laville filled at least two complaints against the leader of the UPP Theo Heyliger claiming that Heyliger offered him hefty sums of monies as bribes to keep his coalition government intact. Then came Jules James who filed a complaint against Laville claiming he pulled a gun on him while in Parliament. Solicitor General Taco Stein told SMN News at the time they were investigating the case but to date nothing has been heard of the complaints that were filed by these legislators against each other.

One would think that some of the people that sought the people's votes to represent them cared about St. Maarten but it is clear that after these people get into office it's all about what is in it for them. The link below will show that MP Romain Laville who is not seeking office this time around but was very vocal about the operations of government also filled up his own pockets. Laville applied for two licenses while holding public office, one of which was in the name of a known criminal who was once his bodyguard. Laville wanted a license to operate "water taxis" and one for an inspection center.
While being part of the NA/DP/ I-3 coalition Laville managed to secure a parcel of long lease land in the name of his father's construction company "Joe's Construction". He also got the Government of St. Maarten to inject $400,000.00 into Tempo turns 7 and was forcing government to give TEMPO another $600,000.00 the following year even though government did not get back one red cent from the first investment they made.

While these are only some of the issues highlighted in this review we must note that several bloggers that are still using fictious names said SMN has not covered anything related to the National Alliance, some said that the leader of the National Alliance gave all contracts to his son but to date they cannot show or provide SMN News with one piece of document to show that is the case.
Comments on this site state that Marlin and his advisors stole the asphalt from PJIAE and sold it but Marlin said that the asphalt was given to residents who wanted to repair their roads and those persons paid the truckers to take the asphalt for them. The only person guilty of taking asphalt is the head of maintenance department of VROMI who took the asphalt and sent it to the French side to pave a private road.
These bloggers who are mostly supporters of the UP party failed to mention that the Harbor Group of Companies paid for tickets for several people to return to the island to vote. Some of those voters landed on the island on Wednesday. According to information provided to SMN News, the Harbor Group of Companies dispensed up to $10,000.00 in Airline tickets for voters abroad to come back and vote. Leader of the National Alliance gave an indication to this on Sunday night while at the AVS political debate.
