PHILIPSBURG:--- "We must be a priority area for the next governing term and the dialogue towards that can start today with the stakeholders of USM," declared President Stuart Johnson of the University of St. Martin (USM) Elite Alumni Foundation via a press release early Thursday afternoon.
"USM has been making great strides over the past years but for its core concerns to be remedied, it needs to be a true priority of Government," Johnson said. "I strongly believe that the time is overdue for the Government to declare USM, as the only tertiary level educational institution for our country," he added.
The board of the USM Elite Alumni Foundation is extremely mindful of the process for this recognition and even further for USM to be fully accredited. "It isn't going to be a one or two step process, but we need to make major steps towards achieving these two goals within the next four years," Johnson stated.
Johnson heads the board of the foundation as president which has over six hundred alumni members of USM along with the other members of the board such as Vice-President Paula Gordon, Secretary Tamara Groeneveldt and Treasurer Sasha Eustache.
"We are continuing with our membership drive and registration process as countless former alumni members continue to reach out to us. Besides reaching out to us to affirm their membership, our members continue to express how neglected they feel USM has been over the course of time and not limited to this governing term," Johnson explained.
"In my personal view, Education is a nonpartisan issue and we are calling on all stakeholders to be mindful of the vital role USM plays in our country. USM has great potential and it is time we take the right steps towards making USM reach its maximum potential," Johnson concluded.
