De Weever deeply saddened by the loss of Professor Joep Lange on MH17.

cdeweeversigningcondolenceregister23072014PHILIPSBURG:--- The Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labour, Cornelius de Weever, expresses his condolences to the family of the prominent Dutch HIV researcher Professor Joep Lange and all the other victims that were on board of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17. Prof. Dr. Lange was the distinguished keynote lecturer due to speak at the upcoming 3rd CHART-CCAS-CMLF Joint workshop from August 24th- August 28th at Sonesta Maho.
Prof. Dr. Lange, was a world renowned HIV researcher and physician, he was also the former President of the International AIDS Society (IAS), Professor of Medicine, Head of the Department of Global Health at the Academic Medical Center (AMC), the University of Amsterdam, Executive Scientific Director of the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD), and Chair of the Steering Committee AIGHD.
"The HIV/AIDS community has lost a pioneer whose main contribution was the development of antiretroviral therapy and its availability to all. A project that our Public Health department is working on. We will honor his life at the upcoming CCAS meeting and now more than ever will Sint Maarten stride in continuing with the fight against HIV. We have a duty to move his legacy forward." Minister de Weever commented.
