Marlin-Romeo poster vandalized in Belvedere

electionpostervandalized13072014GREAT BAY:--- A clean and fair election and election crusade is something that must be stressed by party leaders, this is the call for action postulated candidate Leona Marlin, whose election poster was vandalized in Belvedere on Postulation Day.
"We live in a democracy and people should be free to exercise their right to support whichever party they choose," she said. "Vandalizing another person's poster just because you do not share their views is very closed-minded and infringes upon that person's right. Therefore each candidate from all campaigning parties, have a responsibility to implore their supporters to behave in a respectful manner towards others."
Marlin-Romeo who was officially postulated to run on the United St. Maarten Party as Candidate number 2 said defacing and vandalizing her posters won't shift her focus from the goal she has set. "Tearing down my posters won't stop my progress, or shift my focus from the mission and vison that I have for my country St. Maarten," she said. "If anything this has shown me that we need to have leadership that encourages us to rise above pettiness. Things like this won't break me, I just think it's sad that we cannot engage and respect democracy at work and conduct ourselves with dignity and respect for others."
