First Ever National Primary School Interscholastic Olympiad Deemed a Success.

silveriajacobs22022013GREAT BAY (DCOMM):--- The first ever National Primary School Interscholastic Olympiad was held from February 18th to the 20th 2013.

The Ministry of Sports as well as parents, teachers and participating schools deemed the Olympiad a success. The goal of the Olympiad is to increase the number of sports participants through the country and to use sports as a tool to promote social well-being and excellence.

Seven primary schools participated in the Olympiad i.e. The Methodist Agogic Center, Marie Genevieve de Weever School, Ruby Labega, CIA, Learning Unlimited, Leonard Conner School, St. Dominic Primary, Oranje School, Hillside Christian Schools, Sr. Regina Primary school, Sr. Magda Primary, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School, Charles Leopold Bell School.

The sports events that were presented were Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Volleyball, Swimming, Track & Field and Soccer which took place at the various sports locations on the island.

The overall winner is The Hillside Christian School. Overall second place went to the Martin Luther King Jr. School and third place was awarded to the Methodist Agogic Center Rev. John A Gumbs Campus.

The Sportsmanship Award went to the Methodist Agogic Center Browilia F. Maillard Campus which also has the most athletes participating.

The Female MVP is Tasha Mauvais of the Martin Luther King School. The Male MVP is Deandro Ferdinand of the Ruby Labega School.

Based on the success of this Olympiad the Ministry of Sports would like to encourage schools to prepare for the coming year.

On Monday February 25th to the 27th the Olympiad for the Secondary schools will commence. We look forward to another successful three days of the Interscholastic Olympiad, Minister Hon. Silveria Jacobs said on Friday.
