Man loses eye after chain snatching assault.

MARIGOT:--- The Gendarmerie is appealing for the help of witnesses to catch the two perpetrators who violently assaulted a 66-year-old man in Concordia recently. The incident took place at around midday on Rue de Concordia near the Good News Baptist Church and intersection of Rue du Mont Carmel.
The victim was targeted because of the gold chain he was wearing around his neck. He was approached from behind and in the ensuing struggle sustained a punch directly in one of his eyes. Neighbours called the Gendarmes and Fire Brigade paramedics who arrived at the scene very quickly. The man was rushed to the Louis Constant Fleming hospital and later sent to Guadeloupe to be operated on. Unfortunately, doctors were unable to save his eye. It was later discovered that his gold chain had very little value.
The attackers made their escape on foot through Rue du Mont Carmel. The Gendarmerie has given a description of the aggressors as follows: One is a dark skinned young adult, dressed in black short pants and a black T-shirt. The other is also a dark skinned young adult, dressed in jeans and a red T-shirt.
Anyone who has information that could help the Gendarmerie in its investigation is asked to contact the Gendarmerie in Marigot/Concordia at 0590 52 2197, call the emergency number 17, or come in person to any of the Gendarmerie stations in Marigot, La Savane, or French Quarter.
