MARIGOT—The Gendarmes confiscated five scooters during a road control in Sandy Ground. The scooters would only be released to the legal owners when proper documentation can be provided for road use.
The operation was conducted jointly between the gendarmes and territorial police on Tuesday evening between 5 to 6:30pm.
The Gendarmes said that the scooter riders would ride in a reckless manner with excessive speed, darting in and out of lanes as well as dangerous overtaking. The riders they say are often times without helmets and are doing the ‘wheelies” which leads to serious accidents.
Two of the riders whose scooters were taken away had to walk home and they will b receiving fines for breaking the traffic regulations.
A fatal accident occurred on September 7 when two scooters collided head on in French Quarter on the as one scooter attempted to overtake a car, but crashed into the other oncoming scooter. A 22 year old man was killed.
