Marigot:--- An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale with a depth of 5.7 km to the focus off the coast of Anguilla shook the Leeward Islands Wednesday afternoon. The earthquake was felt in almost every part of St. Maarten. Reports are that residents on the French side of the island felt the tremor more severely which struck at 5:25pm. According to information reaching SMN News, a number of people who were working during the earthquake fled from their offices and homes fearing that the building in which they were working would collapse but so far no damages have been reported. Workers from the Government Information Services (GIS) were seen running out of the building when they felt the earthquake. It should be noted that the health department already condemned the building that houses GIS due to severe mold.
